Fatah blasts Quartet statement condemning terror attack on the Temple Mount; “it is a holy place of worship for Muslims only”

Headline: “Fatah expressed its dissatisfaction over the Quartet’s statement regarding the situation in Jerusalem and at the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
“In a statement published by [Fatah] Movement Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub, Fatah expressed its dissatisfaction over the statement published by the Quartet (i.e., US, EU, Russia, and UN) regarding the current situation in Jerusalem and at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which drew a comparison between the victim and the hangman, and changed the definition of the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its plazas according to how it was (refers to Israel placing metal detectors and security cameras at the entrances to the Temple Mount following a terror attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered; see note below. Israel removed the security measures on July 24, 2017 –Ed.). Fatah emphasized that the status quo since 1967 does not allow the entry of the settlers and Jews to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its holy plazas at any time, but rather [determines] that it is a holy place of worship for Muslims only (sic., according to the status quo Jews are allowed to enter the Temple Mount, but cannot pray there or engage in any type of worship).”

Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
