Egyptian lecturer: Israel uses term “Judea and Samaria” to create “religious excuse” to “rule over the land... that are recorded in history as belonging to the Palestinian people”

Official PA TV program Talk of the Hour, on the situation in Gaza and the ceasefire deal being negotiated between Israel and Hamas, hosting Al-Ayyam reporter and Israeli affairs researcher Akram Atallah and lecturer on general law at Al-Azhar University in Egypt Dr. Muhammad Al-Shbeir

Official PA TV host: “Mr. Muhammad, to this moment Israel relates to the Palestinian territories as ‘Judea and Samaria.’ It talks about the northern districts (i.e., the West Bank) and does not talk about national rule or a Palestinian state.”
Lecturer on general law at Al-Azhar University in Egypt Dr. Muhammad Al-Shbeir: “It [Israel] calls it how it calls it. It has an old law that calls our original and ancient Palestinian northern districts – which are a precious part of our hearts and the hearts of all the residents of the Gaza Strip – and it calls them by the name ‘Judea and Samaria.’ In this way it wants to create a religious excuse in order to rule over the land. Israel is striving to occupy Palestine, and to do so is relying on religious, historical, and afterwards legal excuses. Through this law, it wants to find a religious excuse under the name ‘the territories of Judea and Samaria’ in order to take control of lands that are completely and clearly Palestinian and that are recorded in history as belonging to the Palestinian people.”
