Palestinian national committee: Lifta nature reserve is not an Israeli site, must preserve the "Canaanite heritage village" and its "Palestinian identity"

Headline: “Discussion on dealing with the occupation’s plan to list the village of Lifta as an Israeli site”
“The Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture, and Sciences deliberated yesterday [May 20, 2015] over ways to oppose the Israeli occupation authorities’ plans to register the village of Lifta on the world heritage sites list as an Israeli heritage site…
Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture, and Sciences Murad Al-Sudani praised the role of the head of the Lifta Association and its members in preserving their Canaanite heritage village and their Palestinian identity, and also praised them for their resistance to the occupation’s plans, whose goal is to destroy the village and Israelize it.”

Lifta was an Arab village near the western entrance to Jerusalem. During the War of Independence in 1948, the Palestinian residents deserted their homes, most of which remained empty for many years. In the 1980s the site was declared an Israeli nature reserve.
