Op-ed in PA daily fabricates history, claiming Palestinians are descendants of the biblical Canaanites

Headline: “Palestine, Jerusalem, and the Palestinians: Historical facts, national rights, and struggle literature”

Excerpt of an op-ed by Dr. Maysoun Al-Mazin, an author and researcher of international relations

“In light of the regional and international developments, arguments, and conflicts, and the relative change that has been caused by them in the trends, terms, and worldviews of some of the people around the world regarding the meanings and intuitions surrounding the historical facts, national rights, and struggle literatures of the peoples, a need has arisen to explain and emphasize several points in a simpler and condensed manner: …
The Palestinian people: An ancient people with an old and well-rooted presence in the Middle East region, whose roots go back to its ancient Canaanite ancestors (sic., no such connection has been proven)…
Jerusalem: The capital of historical Palestine (sic., there was never a Palestinian Arab country or organized entity). It was established by the ancient Canaanite ancestors, and more precisely by the Jebusites, one of the Canaanite tribes, in the fourth millennium before the common era. They gave it the name ‘Orsalem’ (Orshalem) [all parentheses in source], which means the city of light (‘Or’) and health (‘Salem’). The city was conquered and taken over several times throughout history, but it maintained its original Palestinian and Canaanite identity, and always constituted an example of religious and human pluralism and coexistence.”
