PA officials honor mothers of Martyrs and prisoners
Official PA TV News reported on an event held by the Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners' Affairs in honor of prisoners’ mothers in Ramallah, on the occasion of Mothers’ Day.
Um Nasser Abu Hmeid: “Nasser [is serving] seven life sentences and 50 years, Sharif – four, Nasser – five and Muhammad [is serving] two life sentences and 30 years. They have been in prison for 13 years.”
Chairman of the PA-funded Prisoners' Club Qadura Fares: “The Palestinian nation honors the woman fighting alongside her son as much as it honors Jihad fighters and those who fight against the occupation. We would like to tell those mothers that we are one family, [we] who fight for freedom, we are all one family.”
District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam: “We honor the patient, fighting mothers who feel pride, in spite of their wounds, because they believe this homeland deserves their loved ones, their sons.”
Official PA TV reporter: “Not far away, Majid Faraj, head of the [Palestinian] General Intelligence Service, honored mothers of Martyrs (Shahids) and prisoners of the intelligence establishment, for their pioneering role… Here Palestinian mothers stand firm in spite of their wounds and the burden on their shoulders. The ‘Al-Khansas’ of Palestine have sacrificed their sons as prisoners of the homeland, and they [share] one sense of pride.”
Note: Al-Khansa - an Arab woman and poet from the earliest period of Islam (7th century) famous and honored in Islamic tradition for sending her four sons to battle and rejoiced when they all died as Martyrs. She has been lauded by the PA and often presented as a role model for mothers.
Muhammad Abu Hmeid is serving 2 life sentences and 30 years for involvement in terror attacks.
Nasser Abu Hmeid was a commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades (Fatah's military wing) in Ramallah and is serving 7 life sentences and 50 years for killing 7 Israeli civilians and 12 attempted murders.
Nasr Abu Hmeid was a member of Tanzim (Fatah terror faction) and is serving 5 life sentences for involvement in two terror attacks and arms dealing.
Sharif Abu Hmeid was a member of one of his brothers' units that carried out terror attacks against civilians and soldiers. He is serving 4 life sentences for accompanying a suicide bomber to his attack in March 2002.
