Official PA daily justifies shooting attack on civilians as "self-defense" against the "Israeli ethnic cleansing state" and the "Judaization" of Jerusalem

Headline: “The Al-Aqsa Mosque is entrusted to your care”

Op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist for the official PA daily

“Like all of the Palestinian people, he (i.e., Musbah Abu Sbeih, terrorist who shot and murdered 2) did not want to die but desired life and a dignified livelihood in his city and among his family, people, and friends in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem. However, the Israeli ethnic cleansing state and its criminal security forces objected to his choice, and acted by all ways and means to push him toward the option of self-defense by the means that he saw as the appropriate language to respond to their barbarity, reckless behavior, and terror. Martyr (Shahid) Musbah Abu Sbeih, 39, could no longer bear the violations and crimes of the Israeli Security Agency. He rejected the situation of silence, or in other words – the surrender to will of the Israeli hangman. In his interview two days ago [Oct. 8, 2016] with the Ma’an [independent Palestinian news agency] website, in other words 24 hours or less before carrying out his self-sacrificing operation (i.e., terror attack, 2 murdered) at the occupation police station in [the Jerusalem neighborhood of] Sheikh Jarrah, he said: ‘Jerusalem is being widely Judaized at this moment and is being subjected to an unprecedented attack by the occupation authorities.’ He continued: ‘We live in a prison; I was arrested five times in one week. The arrests were for several hours or days, and the [Israeli] Security Agency manipulated the judge in the last arrest, as he decided to distance me from the Old City of Jerusalem, but they insisted on distancing me from all of East Jerusalem.’ The ‘Lion of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa,’ as his friends called him, served 39 non-consecutive months in the Israeli occupation’s prisons, in addition to extended and short detentions for several days and weeks on charges of ‘defending the Al-Aqsa Mosque.’ To put it succinctly, the Israeli security forces made the life of Martyr Musbah hell. Although it is possible that there have been those who suffered more than him from persecution, harassment, and arrests, he could no longer bear the racist Israeli barbaric escalation whose goal is to empty the holy city [of Jerusalem] of its Palestinian Arab residents through various acts of ethnic cleansing…This led the Lion of Al-Aqsa to carry out the self-sacrifice operation at the same time that he announced to Ma’an that he would go at 10:00 a.m. to turn himself in at the Ramle Prison, according to the decision of the Israeli security forces, especially since they threatened to transfer him to administrative detention if he did not turn himself in on Sunday morning. The result was the killing of 2 and wounding of 9 Israelis (sic., 5 wounded), including a Palestinian from Hebron, and after a chase the fighter from Jerusalem (i.e., Musbah) fell as a Martyr on the land of the capital, Jerusalem, which he loved, and he commanded all of the Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, Christians, and all those who love Jerusalem to defend it and protect its Palestinian Arab identity.

He wrote on his Facebook page less than 24 hours earlier and expressed his deep love for the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and his city, the city of all of us, by saying: ‘How I long for my beloved. How I have longed and how I have wished [that you will be] the last thing that I see, I will kiss and bow on its land, I will kiss your land and pray on it. But this is the injustice, and they are the perpetrators of the injustice. I will not long for anyone like I long for you, and I do not love anyone like I love you, despite their prisons, hatred, and tyranny. (The Israeli security forces) [parentheses in source] have sentenced me to 4 months of imprisonment because of my love for you, and I said: “Wow, that is little, as my life and all my money are a ransom for it.” If I cannot reach you with my body - my soul, heart, and eyes have not left you, not deserted you, and not forgotten you. The eternal and greatest love until death, the Al-Aqsa Mosque is entrusted to your care, do not abandon it.’

The message of Martyr Musbah is important and has deep meaning – the Zionist terror and ethnic cleansing will only lead to greater devotion to the land, its holy sites, Jerusalem the eternal capital, and every bit of the Palestinian land. If the leaders of Israel, its security forces, and its decision makers try to responsibly consider and contemplate the message of the Lion of Al-Aqsa, they will reexamine their occupation’s policies - that is, if they have [any] realistic and logical vision. This is because the occupation, racism, and the uprooting and expelling cleansing policy of the occupation will not lead to anything other than legitimate resistance for the purpose of self-defense and defense of the supreme national interests and the right to life, peace, and co-existence. The case of Martyr Musbah is a renewed warning of the return of the spirit for a new popular intifada that will not end this time until we have achieved freedom, independence, self-determination, and the return [of refugees]. Will they (i.e., Israeli leaders) retreat from their imperialist choice, stop the [spilling of] blood before it is too late, and agree to pay the price of the two-state solution on the June 4, 1967 borders?”

Musbah Abu Sbeih – 39-year-old Palestinian terrorist who murdered 2 Israelis and wounded 5 others in 3 drive-by shooting attacks in Jerusalem on Oct. 9, 2016. Abu Sbeih, who held Israeli residency status, began his shooting spree at the Ammunition Hill light rail stop and continued to the Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood. He was killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli border police officers during the attack. On the morning of the attack, Abu Sbeih was due to turn himself in to begin a 4 month jail sentence, after being convicted in January 2015 on numerous counts of inciting to terror and supporting a terror organization. On his Facebook page, Abu Sbeih praised terror groups including Hamas as well as terrorists who carried out attacks and actively called for attacks against Israelis. In July 2016, Abu Sbeih was given a distancing order from the Temple Mount that was to be in effect until the end of October 2016.
