Speech by Egyptian Imam broadcast on official PA TV: US administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “will feed the violent extremism and cause its spread throughout the world”

Imam of the Egyptian Al-Azhar Institute Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb: “We completely reject the American administration’s recent decisions, which nothing more than [a piece of] paper for the Arab and Islamic world and the free people of the world. Therefore, they are completely rejected… The conference [participants] and all of the Arabs, Muslims, and free people of the world in the east and west are behind them, warning that if those who published this decision (i.e., to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital) do not hurry to take back their decision immediately, it will feed the violent extremism and cause its spread throughout the world from the east to the west.”

US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
