Fatah: “Iran has not supported the Palestinian people at all through its support for Hamas”

“The Fatah Movement condemned the cheap calls against the fighting Palestinian people, which were made by some Iranians who protested over the financial situation and wished for ‘death to the Palestinians.’ It wondered: ‘Do the Iranians think that their governments – the previous ones and the present one – have given a single penny to the Palestinian people? This is not true at all.’ Official Fatah Spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi emphasized in a press release yesterday [June 30, 2018]: ‘It is shameful that there are those who think that the cause of the financial crisis in Iran is the support for the Palestinian people, because Iran has not given the Palestinian people anything. This is despite Fatah and the PLO standing alongside [Ayatollah] Khomeini’s revolution in 1979, and we have never harmed them – not with words and not with actions – and have never interfered in their internal matters.’ Al-Qawasmi said: ‘All support has clear evidence that impacts the life of the Palestinian people and its resolve, but not one member of the Palestinian people has seen the Iranian support or heard about it at all. We have not seen or heard that Iran took part in building a school, university, hospital, or any development project, even if there are Iranians who think that their support for a party [Hamas] is support for the Palestinian people. This is a great illusion and a great mistake, because Iran has not supported the Palestinian people at all through its support for Hamas.’ He emphasized that Fatah and the Palestinian people respect and appreciate the Iranian people, and that these voices of people who were misled do not represent the Iranian people that by its nature supports the Palestinian people’s rights.”
