Chairman of Palestinian National Council visits former Iranian president, requests support for Palestinian cause

“The Chairman of the [Palestinian] National Council (i.e., the legislative body of the PLO), Salim Al-Za'anoun, met with former Iranian president Heshami Rafsanjani in Tehran, the Iranian capital. Al-Za'anoun congratulated Rafsanjani, on behalf of the Palestinian people, on the 35th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Iranian revolution, and recalled having been beside the late President Arafat when the latter received [possession of the] the Palestinian embassy, which replaced the Israeli one. He also emphasized to his host, Rafsanjani, the Palestinians’ faith in the continuation of Iran’s support of the Palestinian cause, given its [Iran’s] position as a powerful Islamic axis nation in the region, and described to him the calamities the Palestinian people has been suffering as a result of the aggressive Israeli policy that is supported by the US- specifically, the continuation of settlement [construction], the siege that has been laid on Gaza and the threats to Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
