Fatah official: “Since ’67 their [Israel’s] goal is to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque”; it was “about to be destroyed” if not for Palestinians “who put fear in their hearts”

Fatah Central Committee Member Abbas Zaki: “This current action – the intifada with knives – this new one. The previous [intifadas] began with stones, slingshots, nails and [toy] marbles, and later came Molotov cocktails, knives and other things, gradual actions. This time, the knife came right away. Why? Because these people have lost hope for the future, there is no [political] arrangement. They act in the same way that the enemy acts. They [the Israelis] have started the intifada, not we...
Israel cares about security and money. We have imposed [a reality] on them through the knife, which has caused instability, and therefore [now] there is no security and no money. We have no money, or anything, frankly.”
Al Mayadeen TV channel host: “There is nothing to lose”
Fatah Central Committee Member Abbas Zaki: “They [Arab countries] give [money] because of the jobs (i.e., for the salaries for civil servants) and so that we will enjoy life, but [to give money] so that you will fight against Israel, that is forbidden. Everyone is afraid, because all the banks are under US supervision, the Zionist experts, and all the Arabs’ money is in Manhattan, and the keys to petroleum are in the US. If so, we intend to [fight] with our blood, which is more valuable than money. As long as the Israeli is frightened – have you even seen a country which places [emergency] brakes on the train next to every passenger? It is because they do not trust the driver to stop if anything happens. They put brakes for every passenger, god bless them, what a new train is that…  If he [the Israeli] is that frightened, we do not want money. We will win [with] our blood. Yes, we will have great losses, but theirs will be greater, because we live without hospitals and ambulances…” [Host interrupts to ask about the goals of the intifada and their implementation].
Fatah Central Committee Member Abbas Zaki: “I say that the general commander [of the intifada] is Allah, because one small boy of 13 carries out an act that a trained group cannot… we have a just cause… Therefore, since ’67 their goal is to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Today Israel is 58% religious and 23% ultra-orthodox, and they believe only in establishing the [Jewish] Temple. They were about to destroy Jerusalem, [the Al-Aqsa Mosque] was about to be destroyed. But, praise Allah, these young people put fear in their hearts. That ‘sweet’ [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu who says that ‘Jerusalem is an eternal, united capital’ has begun placing concrete barricades in Jerusalem, which isolates them [the Israelis] from the Arabs.”
