Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners Affairs: Israel decided to kill every prisoner who hunger strikes

Headline: “Karake to Al-Quds: There was a decision to assassinate prisoner Al-Qiq, and it was the prisoners’ movement that settled his [hunger] strike”
“Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake revealed that Israel decided to kill every prisoner who carries out a [hunger] strike against it, and it will not give in to his demands, even if it leads to his death. He emphasized that [administrative detainee Muhammad] Al-Qiq broke all predictions, and the desire for life and freedom overcame the death plot. Likewise, he clarified that there were a number of additional factors to his resolve and willpower that contributed to the realization of his victory, and he emphasized that the prisoners’ cause needs to remain a red line in every arrangement or agreement with the Israelis, and we must permanently raise the slogan that there is no reconciliation, agreement, or peace without the release of the prisoners. Following is the text of the interview:

Q: ‘[We will move on] from the condition of the prisoners’ cause and Israel’s actions, what is your message for 2016?’
A: ‘My message is a blessing of love and loyalty to prisoner Karim Younes, who has embodied a symbol of justice and the right of the Palestinian to carry out his legal struggle for freedom and independence in the 34 years he has spent in the [Israeli] prisons. Likewise, a message of assurance that we will not desert the prisoners and will not concede, rather we will continue to knock on the prison doors until their release. This is a cultural, ethical, and national message from the mighty Palestinian people. We are free men of honor, and I do not say what former Director of the Israeli Security Agency [Avi] Dichter said: “It is preferable that 1,000 mothers of Palestinian terrorists will cry than that one Israeli mother will cry.” I say: “No to the crying of Palestinian and Israeli mothers,” and Israeli society must rebel against the extremist right that strives for wars and destruction.’”

What former Director of the Israeli Secret Service Avi Dichter actually said on Feb. 28, 2016: “A thousand Palestinian mothers will cry so that one mother by us will not cry.”

Karim Younes - an Israeli Arab serving a 40-year sentence for kidnapping and killing Israeli soldier Avraham Bromberg in 1980 together with his cousin Maher Younes. Originally sentenced to life in prison, but Israeli President Shimon Peres reduced his sentence in 2012.
