Abbas expresses “support” for “our brothers who protect Al-Aqsa Mosque and suffer greatly to defend it”

Headline: “President Abbas: We do not attack anyone, but we do not want them to attack us”
“President Mahmoud Abbas stated: ‘ We do not attack anyone, but we also do not want them to attack us. Moreover, we do not want them to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We will not be dragged into their cycle [of violence], and will not use violence or force. We believe in peace and non-violent popular resistance, which is our right, and we must continue with it as long as there is [Israeli] aggression.’ This was said while president Abbas inaugurated a CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company) building... The president stated: ‘ We support our brothers who protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque and who suffer greatly to defend it. However, we say to the Israeligovernment: Stay away from the holy sites of Islam and Christianity. We want peace, and our hands reach out for peace in spite of all the suffering you inflict on us, but after all we are pacifists, and if there is peace here, it will include the whole world.’ He added: ‘ We stated in the UN and we will repeat that Israel must fulfill its obligations, and we will fulfill our duties. Yet if they do not want to fulfill their obligations, they are responsible for what will happen here, and for the chaos taking
place here.”
