PA celebration under Abbas auspices honors released murderers

“Yesterday [Aug. 18, 2013] the Jenin District and official dignitaries held a celebration under the auspices of President Mahmoud Abbas for the district’s released prisoners. The district held the celebration in honor of three prisoners who were released from occupation prisons: Yusuf Arshid, Taher Zayoud, and Burhan Sbeih. Jenin District Governor Talal Dweikat conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas to the prisoners and their relatives, and said: ‘This mass reception in honor of these three heroes who spent the best years of their lives in the occupation’s prisons is a message for the occupation authorities and for the world that our nation and its leadership, with President Mahmoud Abbas at the head, adhere to our national principles, and foremost among them, the emptying of the prisons of all male and female prisoners with no restrictions, no conditions, and no exceptions, and without this there will be no security, peace, stability, or negotiations.’ In an address on behalf of Fatah, Jamal Muhaisen congratulated the prisoners and their relatives and our nation. He stressed that the [political] leadership adheres to the national principles, and foremost among them [the principle of] freeing all prisoners with no restrictions or conditions. He stressed that no agreement will be signed unless the prisons are emptied of Palestinian and Arab prisoners… The District Governor, the heads of the security agencies, Fatah Central Committee Members Jamal Muhaisen and Tawfiq Al-Tirawi, the mayor of Jenin, head of the Prisoners’ Club, and head of the Prisoners’ Affairs Administration presented the District Plaque to the heroic prisoners on behalf of the district’s official dignitaries and its citizens while the National Security Guard’s military band played in the background. In addition to Dweikat, attending the reception and tribute (to the prisoners) were Regional Commander Fathi Al-Tayeh, commanders of the security establishment, members of the Palestinian Parliament (Legislative Council) and Fatah’s Revolutionary Council, the national factions, the Ministry for Prisoners’ Affairs, the Prisoners’ Club, the Prisoners’ Families’ Committee, heads of official and non-governmental institutions, prisoner Karim Younes’ son who represented the prisoners from the Palestinian interior (i.e., Israel), and citizens of the Jenin District.
