Abbas representative: Without Jerusalem “there can be no state, no life, and no honor”

“The President [Mahmoud Abbas] participated in a ceremony marking the birthday of the Prophet [Muhammad] at Ramallah’s Palace of Culture yesterday evening [Jan. 5, 2014]. Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the Supreme Shari’ah Judge and Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on [Religious and] Islamic Affairs, said in a speech on behalf of President Abbas: ‘It is a great honor to stand [here] and speak on behalf of the President, on a day so full of [historic] occasions…’
He added: ‘On the 12th of the [Islamic] month of Rabi' Al-Awwal, his [the Prophet Muhammad’s] noble light broke forth (i.e., he was born), and on this day he prophesied, migrated to Medina and returned to his creator. Therefore, this is the day of the Prophet, and justly so. We celebrate it at the same time we observe the birthday of Jesus, peace be upon Him, and the golden anniversary of the revolution of the [Palestinian] land and man, the revolution of Palestine against the occupation, in order to rescue our immortal right…’
Al-Habbash emphasized that at the end of the road, the meeting place would be there, in Jerusalem, at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque – noble, dignified and liberated – without which there would be no peace or stability for anyone in the region and the world at large, [Jerusalem] being the crown jewel, and without it there can be no state, no life and no honor.”
