Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemn beating and detainment of journalists by the PA Security Forces as "grave violation of freedom of the press"

Headline: “The [Palestinian Journalists’] syndicate condemned the attack of [PA] Security [Forces] against the journalists in Jenin; Al-Damiri: We will investigate every complaint that a citizen submits”
“The [Palestinian] Journalists’ Syndicate condemned the fact that a number of journalists in the city of Jenin, including member of the syndicate’s secretariat Jaafar Shtayyeh and the journalists Alaa Badarneh, Mujahid Al-Sa'adi, and Shadi Jarar'ah, were beaten and detained for a while. A spokesman of the [PA] security establishment clarified that what occurred in Jenin was part of the insistence of a number of people not to notify the relevant bodies in accordance with the law about public activities they are holding. The syndicate demanded ’that every security member who attacked journalists be held accountable,’ and emphasized that ‘it will not take lightly this issue which constitutes a clear and grave violation of freedom of the press.’…
Governor of the Jenin District Ibrahim Ramadan said in response to the efforts of the syndicate to deal with the issue: ‘We will assemble an investigative committee and will hold accountable every person or officer who attacked a journalist, and we hope that the syndicate will cooperate with us during the investigation.’…
[PA] Security Forces Spokesman Adnan Al-Damiri clarified that what occurred in Jenin ‘was part of the insistence of a number of people not to notify the relevant bodies in accordance with the law about public activities they are holding, and particularly those that stop traffic and the public life of citizens, and also as part of the attempt of a number of people to create unjustified friction with the Palestinian Security Forces in public places without any respect for the law. This is because the body that held a procession today (yesterday) [Sept. 16, 2016] did not submit a request or inform the relevant bodies in accordance with the law, which caused direct and artificial friction with the Security Forces.”
