Over 1000 Palestinian prisoners are taking academic courses, says PLO official

       “The [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs, together with the [Palestinian] Journalists’Syndicate, held a graduation ceremony yesterday [March 18, 2018] for a group of prisoners from Nafha Prison who completed a course in journalistic editing under the headline Prisoner Martyr (Shahid) Yasser Hamdouni Course. (Hamdouni is a terrorist who participated in murder of 1.) Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’Affairs Issa Karake and District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Dr. Laila Ghannam were present at the ceremony...Karake explained: ‘The prisoners have turned their prisons into strongholds of study and revolutionary, contemplative, and educational academies in order to establish the Palestinian culture of truth opposite the Israeli oppressor.’Karake emphasized: ‘The prisoners’ participation in this course indicates strong willpower, yearning for freedom, and looking to the future.’ He noted: ‘There are over 1,000 prisoners who are studying at a university from within their prison, and this is proof that our prisoners are advocates of thought and freedom, and not terrorists as the Israeli terrorists claim.’”

Yasser Dhiab Hamdouni was a Palestinian terrorist and member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (Fatah’s military wing) who participated in the murder of Israeli civilian Avner Maimon in the Palestinian town of Ya'abad in the West Bank on June 12, 2003. Hamdouni was serving a life sentence when he died on Sept. 25, 2016 after collapsing while exercising in the Israeli Rimon Prison yard.
