Collection: The PA demonizes Britain and the Balfour Declaration

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: "Ninety-nine years have passed since the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration). The unfair [promise]. However, we will not turn the lie (i.e., Israel being the ancient Jewish homeland) into an accepted truth." [Official PA radio The Voice of Palestine, May 15, 2017, rebroadcast from 12th anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death, PA TV, Nov. 10, 2016] Abbas: "Give them [a state] in Britain, man, in Scotland, or at least in Ireland. Why in Palestine? He gave [Jews land] in Palestine and that became their right. No! Britain must first acknowledge that it made a mistake." [Official PA TV, Abbas’ speech at rally marking the 12th anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death, Nov. 10, 2016] Official PA TV narrator: “There is no documentation that the Jews made the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) a place of worship at any time, except after the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) of 1917.” [Official PA TV, "The TV Lexicon,” March 15, 2017] Expert on International Law and Secretary General of the PA Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places Hanna Issa: "It is the right of the Palestinian Arab people to sue Britain... I present as an example the Nazis’ Jewish Holocaust against the Jews in World War II. Germany even apologized... It is similar to the holocaust carried out against the Palestinian Arab people." [Official PA TV News, July 25, 2016] Reporter: "A promise that brings a mark of shame upon humanity... Balfour will continue to turn in his grave because of the historical injustice which Britain committed." [Official Palestinian Authority TV, Nov. 2, 2011] "Faced with the Jews' schemes, Europe could not bear their character traits, monopolies, corruption, and their control and climbing up positions in government. In 1290, King Edward I issued a decree banishing the Jews [from England]. Following him were France, Germany, Austria, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Spain and Italy. The European nations felt that they had suffered a tragedy by providing refuge for the Jews. Later the Jews obtained the Balfour Declaration, and Europe saw it as an ideal solution to get rid of them." [Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 3, 2016] Note: This video was originally broadcast on official PA TV, Jan. 1, 2013, and rebroadcast on Nov. 11, 2014, Dec. 31, 2015 and Jan. 3, 2016. It was broadcast on Fatah-run Awdah TV on Feb. 18, 2015. The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international agreements to establish the State of Israel.
