Fatah official: "Armed struggle" remains a Fatah principle

Official PA TV News, on reconciliation talks between Fatah and Hamas, with Fatah Central Committee member and Fatah Commissioner of National Relations (i.e., between Hamas and Fatah) Azzam Al-Ahmad.

Fatah Central Committee member and Fatah Commissioner of National Relations Azzam Al-Ahmad: "It is the Palestinian people’s right to wage the struggle against the occupation using all the methods, but there should be a consensus on its form. We have not eliminated any method from our considerations, nor from our principles since the [Fatah] Launch [in 1965] until today: Popular resistance, armed struggle, and negotiations. If violence breaks out again, Israel will be responsible for it... Israel did not respond this time to what was agreed in Cairo, but after four days, [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu declared that Hamas needs to recognize Israel. I say: Fatah has not recognized Israel, and no Palestinian faction is required to recognize Israel. The PLO is the government of the Palestinian people, and not the government of the [Palestinian] Authority. The government of the [Palestinian] Authority is managing the [Palestinian] Authority’s territories in terms of services, but political matters are the PLO’s domain."
