Violence and terror
Case Study: Abu Jihad - honored arch-terrorist
Violence and terror
After demonizing Jews and Israelis, including citing Islamic sources that depict Jews negatively, and culminating with ongoing lies and libels that portray Jews as an immediate threat to Palestinian life and existence, the Palestinian Authority foment violence against Jews and Israelis, presenting it as legitimate and even heroic self-defense.

PA terror promotion takes many forms. Nationalistically, the PA actively elevates violence as a valid and heroic means to achieve political goals, while religiously, fighting and killing Jews has been presented repeatedly by PA religious and academic leaders as Allah’s will. On the social level, Palestinian leaders and society honor even the most loathsome of murderers portraying them as heroes and role models: Dalal Mughrabi, who led a bus hijacking in which 37 were killed, has schools, summer camps, and many other events and places baring her name to immortalize and glorify her and her terror attack.

Click to view PMW special report: “From Terrorists to Role Models

The success of the PA’s promotion of violence is readily evident: A majority of Palestinians support killing and suicide terror against civilian Jews and Israelis. A poll conducted after the murder of eight teenagers who were studying in a Jerusalem high school in 2008, found that 84% of Palestinians supported the murder [NY Times, March 19, 2008, citing the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research].

This violent image of a dagger being thrust into the Star of David has appeared hundreds of times in a video clip for children on PA TV, from 2001 – 2008.

Case Study: Abu Jihad - honored arch-terrorist
Abu Jihad (Khalil Al-Wazir) was a founder of Fatah, a deputy to Yasser Arafat, and the ‎head of ‎the PLO terror organization's military wing. He planned many deadly Fatah ‎terror attacks, ‎including the most lethal in Israeli history: the hijacking of a bus and ‎killing of 37 civilians, 12 of ‎them children, in 1978. That attack was led by Dalal ‎Mughrabi, who, like Abu Jihad, has been ‎regularly glorified by the PA and ‎Fatah.‎
‎ ‎
The PA and Fatah have held many sporting and cultural events in Abu Jihad’s honor, ‎and he is often ‎referred to as “the Prince of Martyrs.” [Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-‎Jadida, May 16, 2014] The title of ‎‎“Martyr” (Shahid) is the highest achievable status in ‎Islam today. The PA’s use of the term “Prince of ‎Martyrs” indicates that the PA views ‎Abu Jihad’s terror attacks as sanctioned ‎by Allah and deserving of ‎admiration by ‎Palestinians.‎
‎ ‎
According to the PA, attacks that Abu Jihad planned led to the deaths of 125 Israelis. In ‎‎2012, ‎the PA portrayed these 125 casualties, killed in terror attacks planned and ‎directed by Abu ‎Jihad, as a positive achievement:
‎ ‎
‎"Abu Jihad was killed by the Israeli Mossad in Tunisia on April 16, 1988... and was ‎crowned the Prince of the ‎Martyrs of Palestine... Among the military operations ‎planned by Abu Jihad: the explosion at the Zohar reservoir in ‎‎1955; the operation to ‎blow up the Israeli National Water Carrier in 1965; the operation at the Savoy Hotel in ‎Tel ‎Aviv, which killed 10 Israelis, in 1975; the blowing up of a truck bomb in Jerusalem ‎in 1975; the killing of Albert ‎Levi, the senior sapper, and his assistant, in Nablus in ‎‎1976; the Dalal Mughrabi operation (i.e., bus hijacking), in ‎which more than 37 Israelis ‎were killed, in 1978; the shelling of the Eilat Port in 1979; the Katyusha fire on ‎the ‎northern settlements [in Israel] in 1981..." Fatah official glorifies terrorists, including Dalal Mughrabi

Fatah Revolutionary Council member Muhammad Al-Laham: “Despite the difficulty in this situation, we Palestinians want nothing but resolve. [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas has said more than once in recent years that we are remaining here and not leaving. We have no scenario of a new exile, new displacement, or a new uprooting. This is our land in which we are remaining. This period is the time of Ahed Tamimi (i.e., Palestinian teenager who attacked Israeli soldiers). From Dalal Mughrabi (i.e., terrorist who led murder of 37, 12 of them children) and all of the female and male Martyrs (Shahids) who are more honorable than all of us – this is a production line that reaches my colleague [Fatah Revolutionary Council member] Kifah Harb who is speaking with you from the Balata [refugee] camp on the second screen, and she is a sister of heroes and the wife of Martyr Abdallah Daoud (i.e., terrorist responsible for many terrorist attacks), the Fatah hero, a son of the security establishment, an officer in the [PA] intelligence service, who the occupation forces accused of regularly recruiting male and female Martyrdom seekers, and especially Ayyat Al-Akhras (i.e., suicide bomber, murdered 2), a Martyr of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades (i.e., Fatah's military wing) that is affiliated with the Fatah Movement. Therefore, [the occupation forces] expelled him until he died as a Martyr in Algeria. This is the Palestinian people that holds all of the tools and all of the tricks to respond to the occupation’s policy."

Fatah branch in Gaza: Palestinians have proven by past terror campaigns that they will adhere to their goals “whatever the cost may be;” commemorates "great" terrorist “Martyr leaders”
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Nov. 15, 2017
“The eastern Gaza branch of the Fatah Movement today [Nov. 15, 2017] blessed the Palestinian Arab people for the 29th anniversary of the [Palestinian] announcement of the document of independence (see note below –Ed.)…
The [Fatah] Movement added that a long path of resolve, struggle, and resistance still stands before this declaration in order to turn it into reality on the ground through full national sovereignty over the Palestinian country... The movement commented that our Palestinian people has proven in the first and second Intifadas (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, 1987-1993; and PA terror campaign 2000-2005) that it has a national dream and goals to which it adheres, whatever the cost may be, and noted that the Palestinian Arab people aspires and calls on all of the peoples of the world, its governments, and its international institutions to support its struggle and resistance in order to be liberated and rid itself of the yoke of the occupation… The movement turned to the masses of its people and said on the anniversary of the declaration of independence: 'We remember our great Martyr (Shahid) leaders... We remember the wounded and the sacrifice of the prisoners and the long path of struggle that our proud people has travelled.'"

Op-ed in PA daily glorifies "heroism" of terrorist "Martyrs": Palestinians “will elevate their names,” name institutions after them
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 1, 2017
Excerpt of an op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, a regular columnist for the official PA daily

"The Martyrs (Shahids) of the Palestinian Arab people are the symbols of the national struggle. With their great sacrifices they illuminated the path to freedom, independence, and the return [of the refugees], which still continues. The leaders and citizens are in awe of them, as they have defended the just national goals for which they paid with their lives, and for which the [Palestinian] people will continue its struggle until they are fully achieved... Whoever thinks that the Palestinian people can deny their heroic Martyrs is mistaken - children, women, men, and elderly – and primarily the Martyr leaders, the Palestinian national symbols... Out of respect for them, their acts of heroism, and their pioneering in the liberation struggle, and out of pride in their national status, the Palestinian people and its leadership will elevate the names of the Martyrs in the skies of Palestine, and memorialize them by naming squares, universities, schools, streets, cultural centers, and sports clubs after them – even in Arab states, friendly states, and everywhere possible. The people and its national leadership will not fear the sword of terror of Israel, the US, and those who follow them. They will record their struggle on the golden pages of the history of the Palestinian people."
