Glorifying terrorists and terror
Violence and terror
After demonizing Jews and Israelis, including citing Islamic sources that depict Jews negatively, and culminating with ongoing lies and libels that portray Jews as an immediate threat to Palestinian life and existence, the Palestinian Authority foment violence against Jews and Israelis, presenting it as legitimate and even heroic self-defense.

PA terror promotion takes many forms. Nationalistically, the PA actively elevates violence as a valid and heroic means to achieve political goals, while religiously, fighting and killing Jews has been presented repeatedly by PA religious and academic leaders as Allah’s will. On the social level, Palestinian leaders and society honor even the most loathsome of murderers portraying them as heroes and role models: Dalal Mughrabi, who led a bus hijacking in which 37 were killed, has schools, summer camps, and many other events and places baring her name to immortalize and glorify her and her terror attack.

The success of the PA’s promotion of violence is readily evident: A majority of Palestinians support killing and suicide terror against civilian Jews and Israelis. A poll conducted after the murder of eight teenagers who were studying in a Jerusalem high school in 2008, found that 84% of Palestinians supported the murder [NY Times, March 19, 2008, citing the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research].

This violent image of a dagger being thrust into the Star of David has appeared hundreds of times in a video clip for children on PA TV, from 2001 – 2008.

Glorifying terrorists and terror
Palestinian society’s habitual glorification of terrorists as heroes and role models is one of its most effective means of promoting terror. In honoring the worst killers, the PA is simultaneously giving approval to murder and enticing future terrorists with assurances of glory and honor if they succeed in killing. Terror and murder become the Palestinian’s ticket to fame, honor and glory.

The terrorists honored most highly amongst Palestinian society are those who have killed the greatest number. Abd Al-Baset Udeh, killer of 30 at the Passover Seder massacre, had a soccer tournament for 14-year-olds named for him. His brother was honored with distributing the trophies. Dalal Mughrabi, terrorist bus hijacker (led the most lethal terror attack in Israel’s history in 1978, when she and other terrorists killed 37 civilians, 12 of them children) has had summer camps, schools, graduation ceremonies and sporting events named for her, as well as many TV documentaries honoring her. Palestinian newspapers also frequently glorify Mughrabi, as in the Al-Ayyam article which described Mughrabi as writing "the most glorious page of heroism in the history of the Palestinian struggle. [Aug. 2, 2009]. Thaer Hammad, who as a lone gunman murdered 10 Israelis in 2002, was glorified by the official PA daily as “the hero of the Intifada."

This adulation of the worst terrorists and praise for their heroism reflects the policy of the leadership of the Palestinian Authority. This video shows PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas,
issuing “greetings of honour and esteem” to mass murderers, whom he publicly names, one by one:
“I send greetings of honour and esteem to all prisoners...
Said 'Ataba (serving life sentence for murder in terror attack)…
Marwan Barghouti (serving 5 life sentences for planning murderous terror attacks)
Ahmad Sa'adat (serving 30 years in prison for heading the terrorist organization PFLP; honored on PA TV for planning the assassination of Israeli Minister Ze'evi in 2001, but never tried)
Aziz Dweik (Hamas leader, chairman of Palestinian parliament)
Jamal Huweil (life sentence for planning terror attacks)
Jamal Tirawi (life sentence for café suicide terror attack).
Greetings to you from our people.”

Headline: “The Palestinian Martyrs' Day ceremony in Ramallah became a rally for Jerusalem”

“Great masses marked Palestinian Martyrs' (Shahids') Day – with official participation and participation by the factions – in a central ceremony that was organized by the National Association of the Families of the Martyrs [of Palestine] at the Ramallah culture hall…
[PA] Minister of Justice Ali Abu Diyak noted in a speech on behalf of [PA] Prime Minister [Rami Hamdallah] that the marking of this great day falls at a time when the Palestinian cause is in a fateful and historic period, in which our people and its leadership are dealing with [US President Donald] Trump’s tyrannical declaration that attempts to steal from Jerusalem its Arabness and Palestinian national identity, and to declare it Israel’s capital.
Abu Diyak directed a blessing of appreciation and esteem to the Martyrs who have sacrificed themselves for Palestine from the British Mandate period, on to the Martyrs of the Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” the Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel) and aggression of 1967 (i.e., the Six Day War) from among the members of the Palestinian people and the precious nation, and ending with the Martyrs of the battles of Lebanon, the two Intifadas, the assassinations, and the ongoing acts of aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip…
Abu Diyak conveyed the blessings of [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] and the prime minister to the families and relatives of the Martyrs who paved the path to freedom and independence with their blood and sacrifice, and sacrificed their souls for Palestine. Headline: “Al-Wahidi: The occupation authorities are committing a forbidden act by holding the bodies of the Palestinian and Arab Martyrs”

“Fatah Movement Representative in the [Palestinian] National and Islamic Forces’ Prisoner Committee Nashat Al-Wahidi condemned the fact that the Israeli occupation is holding the bodies of the Palestinian and Arab Martyrs (Shahids) in the numbered cemeteries (i.e., Israeli cemeteries for terrorists and enemy soldiers) that desecrate the dignity of the dead…
Al-Wahidi noted that the occupation state already conducted a DNA test on July 30, 2017, under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross, on the body of heroic Martyr Anwar Muhammad Attiyah Sukkar (i.e., suicide bomber, involved in double bombing in which 22 Israelis were murdered), who was born in the Shuja’iya neighborhood [of Gaza] on Dec. 10, 1972, and carried out a heroic self-sacrificing operation (i.e., suicide bombing) at Beit Lid with his brother and comrade Martyr Salah Abd Al-Hamid Shaker on Sunday morning, Jan. 22, 1995. This operation led to the deaths of over 20 Israeli soldiers and the wounding of dozens. The occupation state has also conducted DNA tests on the body of female Martyr Hanadi Jaradat (i.e., suicide bomber, murdered 21) from Jenin, who carried out a heroic self-sacrificing operation on Oct. 4, 2003, at a restaurant in Haifa, which led to the deaths of 19 Israelis (sic., 21).”

The Cemeteries for Enemy Casualties are two burial sites maintained by the Israeli army for burying the bodies of enemy soldiers as well as terrorists. They are fenced and well-marked. Graves have markers instead of gravestones. Burial is temporary, on the assumption that the bodies will eventually be returned to their countries of origin. No ceremony is held. The bodies are buried in numbered caskets after their identities are documented.
PLO Official says terrorist prisoners are “freedom prisoners and legitimate fighters,” and “prisoners of a national liberation movement and legal fighters, and not criminal prisoners”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 7, 2018
Headline: “Karake: The ‘prisoner execution’ law is Israeli barbarity that gives off a criminal smell”

“Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake said the fact that the occupation approved the Palestinian prisoner execution law in a first reading (sic., see note below), along with the previous criminal laws that the Israeli Parliament has legislated in the last two years against the prisoners, establishes the Israeli barbarity that gives off a criminal, terrorist, and racist smell…
Karake said that ‘legislating laws of this type is meant to continue to reject the legitimacy of the struggle and the legal legitimacy of the prisoners as prisoners of freedom and legitimate fighters who fought and sacrificed for their land and its independence. These prisoners, according to international law and UN resolutions, are prisoners of a national liberation movement and legal fighters, and not criminal prisoners and criminals as Israel claims.’”

The Israeli Parliament voted in favor of a bill facilitating the death penalty for terrorists in a first reading on Jan. 3, 2018. The bill allows military courts to pass a death sentence with a simple majority of judges as opposed to a unanimous decision. It does not specify that it applies to Arab or Palestinian terrorists only.
