Jerusalem under assault
Jerusalem is "land of Ribat" - holy Islamic land
Jerusalem under assault
In 2009 the Palestinian Authority has initiated an unprecedented campaign of historical revision and anti-Israel libels concerning Jerusalem, the focal point being the erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem.

In addition, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting both to expel Arabs from Jerusalem and to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem libels are designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as a threat to Arabs and Islam.

This section documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority's campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement surrounding Jerusalem.

This cartoon with the caption "Judaization of Jerusalem" shows, from right to left, a sinister-looking Jew first sharing the chair with an Arab and then shoving him off.
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, official PA daily, Feb 24, 2009]
Jerusalem is "land of Ribat" - holy Islamic land
The Palestinian Authority has adopted the Hamas ideology of framing the conflict with Israel as a religious war for Allah. Jerusalem and all of Israel are defined as "Ribat" - holy Islamic land - whose "liberation" and defense are said to be mandatory under Islamic law. The significance of the PA defining the conflict as “Ribat” is clear when reading how a PA schoolbook defines “Ribat":

"The Ribat for Allah is one of the actions related to Jihad ...The persistence of Palestine's people on their land in these days [i.e., Israel], and their persistence against the damage and the aggression they endure - is one of the greatest of the Ribat [fighting for Islamic land], and they are worthy of a great reward from Allah.... they are found in Ribat until Resurrection." [Islamic Education, grade 12, p. 86-87]

Since 2008, Palestinian leaders have frequently defined all of Israel, and particularly Jerusalem, as land of "Ribat" - i.e., areas which Muslims have a religious obligation to defend and liberate for Islam. In the past, it was specifically Hamas that defined the conflict with Israel as a religious war. Now, the PA - Fatah leadership regularly presents its war against Israel as a religious battle for Islam.
Fatah in Nablus calls on Palestinians to “come out… in force” against “any attempt to harm the holy city, Judaize it, and change its characteristics,” if US recognizes Jerusalem as Israeli capital
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Dec. 6, 2017
Headline: “Fatah in Nablus called for a popular uprising ‎(i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror)‎ against Trump’s decision”
“The Fatah Movement in Nablus today, Wednesday [Dec. 6, 2017], called to come out determinedly and in force against American President [Donald Trump’s] decision to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem. During the emergency meeting convened by Fatah’s Nablus branch today, Fatah called… on the masses of the people, with all of its components and parts, and in all places where it is located, to bear the moral, national, and human responsibility to come out against the aggression that threatens to harm our Islamic and Christian holy sites, and to be ready to express their rejection of the dangerous American bias, if Trump’s speech tomorrow includes a decision to transfer the American embassy to Jerusalem or recognize it as the capital of Israel... Fatah emphasized in a statement that the members of the Palestinian people – who stood [firm] during the last Jerusalem uprising and presented the most spectacular examples of resolve and sacrifice – will stand against any attempt to harm the holy city [of Jerusalem], Judaize it, and change its characteristics and its eternal Arab-Islamic cultural identity.”

Abbas advisor: The Temple Mount will remain a “purely Islamic” mosque under Muslim sovereignty, despite Israeli “acts of falsifying history and distorting historical facts”
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Nov. 26, 2017
"Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine, [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, [and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice] Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash… explained that the Palestinians in all of their varieties and leaders, and the Arabs and Muslims together with them, will never allow the occupation authorities to impose their sovereignty over the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount), which was and will remain a purely Islamic mosque, over which non-Muslims have no sovereignty. This is as was determined by divine decree in the holy Quran and also by UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) resolutions, despite all the acts of falsifying history and distorting historical facts that the Israeli occupation state is attempting to carry out."

Note: Israel has publically stated multiple times that it has no intention whatsoever of changing the status quo at the Temple Mount.
Preacher at the Al-Aqsa Mosque: “Muslims have an absolute right to the Al-Aqsa Mosque” including all that it contains
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Nov. 10, 2017
“Imam and Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher Sheikh Yusuf Abu Sneineh said today [Nov. 10, 2017] during his sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque… that the Muslims have an absolute right to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, including all of the mosques, prayer sites, [and] plazas… that it contains.”
Abbas’ advisor on religion: All Muslims must visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque and carry out Ribat in it
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 28, 2017
“Supreme Shari’ah Judge and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash emphasized the brotherhood between the Muslims in all countries of the world… Al-Habbash said this yesterday [Oct. 27, 2017] during a Friday sermon at the Mercies of the World Mosque in Hyderabad, India…
He noted that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is occupied because of the rift between the Muslims [internally] and because of their weakness, and that Al-Aqsa Mosque will not revert to being under the rule of Islam until the Muslims unite.
Al-Habbash demanded that the Muslims act to liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque and fill it through visits from around the world... [Al-Habbash added:] ‘This is the least the Muslims must do today – to fill the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to visit it, to close themselves inside it, and to carry out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in it – as is being done in Jerusalem by the Palestinians who are struggling against the occupier and carrying out Jihad through Ribat, prayer, and closing themselves in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and its plazas.’ He continued: ‘My advice to you is to make a decision in your hearts to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that today you turn the visit to the Al-Aqsa Mosque into part of your Jihad…’”

Image and text posted on the official Fatah Facebook page

Posted text is a quote by Arafat:
“This is my people, the people of giants, which is [engaged] in Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) until Judgement Day
It is the [people] of which one of its boys or girls will wave the flag of Palestine over the churches of Jerusalem, its towers, and its walls.
They think that this is still far off, but we think that it is near, and we will be the ones who are right, Allah willing.
And we will be victorious despite them.”

PLO official: The Western Wall (i.e., Judaism's holiest site) “is an inseparable part of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and a pure right of the Muslims” that will not be changed by Israel’s “illusions and acts of forgery”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 4, 2017
Headline: “Qurei: The violations and dangers surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque are dangerous and systematic”
“PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs Ahmed Qurei ‘Abu Alaa’… emphasized in a press release yesterday, Tuesday [Oct. 3, 2017], that the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount) is an inseparable part of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and a pure right of the Muslims, and the illusions and acts of forgery that the occupation government is carrying out will not change the truth at all, and will not create facts on the ground.”

The Al-Buraq Wall - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."

The Shabiba movement also appreciated the position of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership, their latest decisions regarding Jerusalem, including stopping all types of contact with the occupation, and their call to the members of our people to carry out Ribat in order to defend the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. It also admired the position of the Palestinian leadership to aid the resolve of the Palestinian citizens in Jerusalem. Fatah's Shabiba demanded that its sons, activists, and supporters, and all of the young Palestinians widely participate in a Friday of Ribat, to widen the circle of the confrontation with the occupation forces and the herds of settlers, to open all the fronts in the villages, cities, and refugee camps, and to widen the area of confrontation so that it will include all of the settlements and roads that serve them, in order to convey the message of the young Palestinians that Jerusalem is a Palestinian taboo, and that harming it means opening the gates of hell before the occupiers."

Fatah proud of rioters in Jerusalem, vows to continue “popular resistance”
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), July 24, 2017
Headline: “Fatah: Jerusalem is our capital, the Al-Aqsa Mosque is our direction of prayer, and the [Fatah] Movement is leading those defending them”

“[Fatah] Movement Spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi said in a press statement that we in Fatah are proud of our residents and our people who are carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic) in Jerusalem in particular, and also of our mighty Palestinian people everywhere it is located, which in these moments is embodying the most spectacular definition of cohesion, unity, and mutual responsibility, and is defending the sites that are holy to Islam and Christianity and the entire holy city [of Jerusalem]. Fatah will continue to be on the ground and leading those defending our capital and our Al-Aqsa Mosque as part of the popular resistance (i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror) that it has adopted and leads.”

The terms "peaceful uprising/resistance,” and “popular uprising/resistance" are used by PA leaders at times to refer to peaceful protest and at times to refer to deadly terror attacks and terror waves. For example, ‎Mahmoud Abbas defined as “peaceful popular” the murderous terror during the 2015-2016 ‎terror wave (“The Knife Intifada”), in which 40 people were killed (36 Israelis, 1 Palestinian, 2 Americans and 1 Eritrean) and hundreds wounded by stabbings, shootings and car ramming attacks: Abbas said: "we want peaceful popular uprising, and that’s what this is." http://palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=16437

He added: ‘Our hands are extended to Hamas to end the rift, on the basis of Palestine, Jerusalem, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque being bigger than all, and therefore [Hamas] must answer the call of justice, the call of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the members of our people who are carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic).’”

Abbas’ religious advisor claims Israeli security measures on Temple Mount “constitute aggression against religious and political rights of Muslims”; Fatah claims Israel planning to “empty Jerusalem” of Palestinians

Headline: “Friday is a day of general high-alert and prayers will not take place except at the Al-Aqsa Mosque”

“Supreme Shari’ah Judge and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash called on the international community to act before it will be too late to prevent the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East and the world because of the continuation of the racist Israeli attacks against the Al-Aqsa Mosque (Israel placed metal detectors at its entrances after a terror attack in which 2 Israelis were murdered took place there on July 14, 2017; see note below –Ed.).
The supreme Shari’ah judge emphasized that the responsibility for the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the sole right of Muslims, and that the Israeli interference in Al-Aqsa Mosque affairs constitutes aggression against the religious and political rights of the Muslims.

In coordination with the [PA] Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Friday prayer will be held this week in the public plazas of the Palestinian cities, and every branch will define its plan to support the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites against the Israeli occupation’s acts of terror, until the occupation retracts its steps against the mosque.

We must all carry out Ribat in the Al-Aqsa [Mosque]. It's not enough for us to say: ‘The settlers have arrived [at the Mosque]’. They have come, and they must not come to the Sanctuary (i.e., Temple Mount). We have to prevent them, in any way whatsoever, from entering the Sanctuary. Official PA TV program Inside, on the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque for two days after a terror attack was committed there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered; hosting Dean of the Al-Azhar Institutes in Palestine Sheikh Imad Hamato

Dean of the Al-Azhar Institutes in Palestine and host of weekly PA TV show in Islam Sheikh Imad Hamato: "We [the Palestinians] are people that do not know our history correctly. We have a deed of ownership from Allah for the Al-Aqsa Mosque. We have a deed of ownership from our lord, Allah’s Messenger [Muhammad]…
We must all be at the Al-Aqsa Mosque [expressing our full] emotions, this is a call over those good radio waves, that every Muslim should reexamine his faith. We fear that Allah will examine our hearts and find that we are mired in emotions that will not please Him. Every Muslim must fulfill the obligatory commandment to assist the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is not enough that you say that your identity is Muslim, and it is not enough that you say that your identity is Christian. You must ask forgiveness of Allah and carry out the commandment of Ribat at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, around this mosque taken hostage."
