Op-ed in official PA daily refers to the “US and Israel’s plan to build ‘the greater Middle East’ and destroy and crush the Arab states”

Excerpt of an op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist for the official PA daily

Headline: “Oslo and Hamas”

“Whoever followed the Hamas Movement’s views on the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Oslo Accords noticed that its various levels of leadership declared positions condemning the Accords, and of course that this was the position at the time of their [the Accords’] signing at the White House on Sept. 13, 1993. The position of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement branch in Palestine was not summed up by [just] condemnation and rejection of the Accords, but rather they even dared to accuse the legitimate leadership of the PLO in its entirety, and [PLO and PA] President Mahmoud Abbas in particular, of treason…
Why has Hamas still not left behind the matter of the coup (refers to 2007 Hamas takeover of Gaza; see note below –Ed.), even though 12 years have passed? And who is running inside the maze of Israel and [US President Donald] Trump’s America, and passing the deal of the century (refers to Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan –Ed.) in exchange for statements in Gaza? Was the coup against the national legitimacy in the middle of 2007 not tantamount to the spearhead of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement’s entry into the US and Israel’s plan to build ‘the greater Middle East’ and destroy and crush the Arab states, Egypt, Iraq, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Syria, and Yemen?”

2007 Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip - Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah won the 2005 Palestinian Authority Presidential election. However, Hamas won the 2006 parliamentary elections in both the Gaza Strip and West Bank, with a majority of 74 out of 132 seats, to Fatah’s 45 seats. Fatah’s rule of the PA Presidency and Hamas’ rule of the PA government led to friction and eventually armed conflict between Hamas and Fatah. Hamas defeated Fatah militarily in the Gaza Strip in 2007, and since then Hamas rules in Gaza while the PA continues to rule the West Bank under Fatah.
