“The eastern Gaza branch of the Fatah Movement today [Nov. 15, 2017] blessed the Palestinian Arab people for the 29th anniversary of the [Palestinian] announcement of the document of independence (see note below –Ed.), and renewed the promise to continue forward in realizing the declaration and its implementation on Palestinian land…
The [Fatah] Movement added that a long path of resolve, struggle, and resistance still stands before this declaration in order to turn it into reality on the ground through full national sovereignty over the Palestinian country, a country liberated from the settlement and occupation, [with] full control over the internationally recognized crossings and full participation in all of the international organizations and bodies as a state with sovereignty and full membership in the UN, without being under anyone's sponsorship.
The movement commented that our Palestinian people has proven in the first and second Intifadas (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, 1987-1993; and PA terror campaign 2000-2005) that it has a national dream and goals to which it adheres, whatever the cost may be, and noted that the Palestinian Arab people aspires and calls on all of the peoples of the world, its governments, and its international institutions to support its struggle and resistance in order to be liberated and rid itself of the yoke of the occupation…
The movement turned to the masses of its people and said on the anniversary of the declaration of independence: 'We remember our great Martyr (Shahid) leaders Yasser Arafat, Abu Jihad (i.e., Fatah founder and terrorist, responsible for the murder of 125), Fathi Shaqaqi (i.e., founder of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization), George Habash (i.e., founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine terrorist organization), Omar Al-Qassem (i.e., terrorist, involved in murder of 2), Ahmed Yassin (i.e., founder and former head of Hamas terrorist organization),… Dalal Mughrabi (i.e., terrorist who led murder of 37, 12 of them children), and all of the Martyrs. We remember the wounded and the sacrifice of the prisoners and the long path of struggle that our proud people has travelled.'"
Palestinian declaration of independence - On Nov. 15, 1988, before the Palestine National Council (PNC), the Palestinian parliament in exile in Algeria, Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Yasser Arafat declared the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. Although the borders were not specified in the declaration, it recognized the UN partition plan of 1947, which called for the creation of a Jewish state and an Arab state in the former British Mandate for Palestine.
Abu Jihad (Khalil Al-Wazir) - was a founder of Fatah and deputy to Yasser Arafat. He headed the PLO terror organization's military wing and also planned many deadly Fatah terror attacks in the 1960’s - 1980’s. These attacks, which murdered a total of 125 Israelis, included the most lethal in Israeli history - the hijacking of a bus and murder of 37 civilians, 12 of them children.
Fathi Shaqaqi - Founder of the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad, which has carried out more than 1,000 terror attacks, murdering and wounding hundreds of Israeli civilians. He was killed by Israel in Malta in 1995.
George Habash - Founder of the terror organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). The PFLP has planned and carried out numerous terror attacks against Israeli civilians since its founding in 1967 and throughout the Palestinian terror campaign between 2000- 2005 (the Intifada).
Omar Al-Qassem - Led a terror squad that crossed the Jordan River into Israel to carry out a terror attack in 1968. Caught by Israeli soldiers, the squad murdered two soldiers. Al-Qassem was given two life sentences, and died in his prison cell 21 years later.
Ahmed Yassin - Founder and former head of the terrorist organization Hamas. The Hamas movement is responsible for numerous terror attacks and the deaths of hundreds of Israeli civilians.
Dalal Mughrabi led the most lethal terror attack in Israel’s history, known as the Coastal Road massacre, in 1978, when she and other Fatah terrorists hijacked a bus on Israel's Coastal Highway, murdering 37 civilians, 12 of them children, and wounding over 70.
