Abbas defends Hamas in speech: “The Hamas Movement is part of our people, and I do not agree that terror be ascribed to it”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 9, 2018
Official PA TV, speech by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “What I want first of all is that you [Americans] take back the things you have done: in other words, transferring the embassy to Jerusalem – a mistake. Cancelling the aid to UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) – a mistake. And say what you have said more than once: That the borders are the 1967 ones and [the solution is] two states. After all, this was much talked about already in the days of [former US President George W.] Bush the son, so why have you taken it back? This is in regards to the Americans. Afterwards, what happened two days ago [Dec. 6, 2018] – they published a statement or proposed a [UN] resolution in which they want to consider the Hamas Movement a terror [organization]. Okay, they asked me: ‘What’s your opinion?’ I told them my opinion is that the Hamas Movement is part of our people, and I do not agree that terror be ascribed to it. I do not accept that it is a terror [organization]. Therefore, they went and submitted the resolution to the [UN] General Assembly.”

PA, PLO officials praise UN vote against recognizing Hamas as a terror organization: A “rejection of the methods of hegemony, arrogance, and assistance to the occupation that the American administration is carrying out in order to falsify the facts”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 8, 2018
"The PLO, the [PA] government, and the factions yesterday [Dec. 7, 2018] welcomed the results of the vote in the UN against the American proposal to condemn the Hamas Movement…
PLO Executive Committee member [and Head of the PLO Department of Diplomacy and Public Policy] Dr. Hanan Ashrawi welcomed the UN General Assembly vote against the American resolution that condemns Hamas...
The [PA] national unity government welcomed the results of the vote at the UN General Assembly, which showed the world's bias in favor of the Palestinian right, and the rejection of the methods of hegemony, arrogance, and assistance to the occupation that the American administration is carrying out in order to falsify the facts at the global level.
Official [PA] Government Spokesman Yusuf Al-Mahmoud said yesterday, Friday: 'The American administration’s failure to pass the proposed resolution that blames the Palestinian side, [and] exonerates the occupation and encourages it to commit more crimes against the members of our people, proves once again the power of the Palestinian right…
Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine, President [Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs, [and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice] Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash emphasized that today the Palestinian people once again defeated the American administration and Israel in the corridors of the UN."

Op-ed in official PA daily: Hamas is carrying out a “legitimate struggle,” failed US sponsored resolution declaring Hamas a terror organization heralds Trump’s disgrace and Netanyahu’s fall
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 8, 2018
Excerpt of op-ed by Yahya Rabah, a columnist for the official PA daily and member of the Fatah Leadership Committee in Gaza

"And thus the day of the vote at the UN General Assembly on the American proposed resolution, which is 100% in Israel's favor, arrived.
The Palestinian leadership invested a supreme effort through Palestinian diplomacy and through its international connections in order to thwart the proposed resolution – which means thwarting American President Donald Trump and his diplomacy that is losing its grip – this proposal, which sought to accuse Hamas of terror over a legitimate struggle it is carrying out, and which is the right of every people that is under occupation according to international law and the international bodies (sic., apparently refers to Palestinian claim that UN Resolution 3236 legitimizes violence; see note below). The US suffered this failure for Israel and Trump suffered this slap on behalf of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, and the failure of the American resolution opened an especially wide door, whose title is that every failure of Netanyahu is Trump's failure, and every disgrace of Trump is a warning about the fall of Netanyahu."

Fatah official: “If Hamas, which is involved in resistance, is considered a terrorist movement, this means that all groups of the Palestinian people are involved in terrorism”
Source: Palestine Today, independent Palestinian news agency (Gaza), Dec. 2, 2018
Headline: “Prominent senior Fatah official: Hamas is part of us and we are part of it, we will not abandon it to fight alone on the front line”
“Fatah Movement Central Committee member [and Fatah Commissioner for Arab and China Relations] Abbas Zaki said: ‘The proposed American resolution, which was submitted to the [UN] Security Council and condemns the Hamas Movement, is a typical racist resolution that we will fight against in every way, because it harms the Palestinian enterprise and the struggle, and not [just] a specific faction.’
Zaki added in statements to [independent Palestinian news agency] Palestine Today: ‘If Hamas, which is involved in resistance, is considered a terrorist movement, this means that all groups of the Palestinian people are involved in terrorism. This contradicts reality, as Hamas and the rest of the Palestinian factions are national liberation movements that are involved in resisting an Israeli occupation that is implementing terrorism against the members of our people.’”

Fatah official defends Hamas against US resolution submitted to the UN condemning Hamas and recognizing it as a terrorist organization
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 1, 2018
Headline: “Al-Sheikh: The wording of the resolution that the US submitted to the UN condemning Hamas is rejected out of hand”

“Fatah Movement Central Committee member [and Head of Civil Affairs in the PA] Hussein Al-Sheikh said today, Thursday [Nov. 29, 2018], that the wording of the resolution that the US submitted to the UN General Assembly condemning the Hamas Movement is rejected out of hand.
He added in a press release that the wording of the American resolution is additional decisive evidence of the absolute American policy of bias in favor of the occupation and comparison of the victim to the hangman.
Al-Sheikh expressed hope that the friendly sister states will stand against this unfair resolution.
The delegation of Palestine at the UN distributed a memorandum to all of the member states to respond to the fact that US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley distributed a resolution proposal entitled ‘Hamas’ condemning the movement for ‘randomly firing rockets towards populated areas in Israel, and demanding to consider the Hamas Movement a terrorist movement that commits war crimes.’”
Fatah official condemns US-led anti-Hamas resolution; says Fatah "opposes making any accusation of terror against Palestinians in any form;" condemns Arab countries’ normalization with Israel
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 21, 2018
“Fatah Movement Central Committee member [and Fatah Commissioner of Treasury and Economy] Muhammad Shtayyeh said two days ago [Nov. 19, 2018] that Fatah is ready for a full national reconciliation [with Hamas]… He emphasized that the Palestinian position, which opposes the so-called ‘deal of the century’ (referring to US President Donald Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan –Ed.), was adopted following the decisions and steps that the Trump administration actually took... Shtayyeh added: ‘America wanted to lead us to a political massacre, through which it would eliminate the Palestinian national cause.’
Shtayyeh emphasized that Fatah opposes the draft resolution being formulated in the American Congress to condemn the Hamas Movement. He explained that the [Fatah] Movement opposes making any accusation of terror against Palestinians in any form…
Shtayyeh also spoke about the topic of normalization. He said that it is sad to see that the Arab Peace Initiative is being ignored, and that Israeli is being given what it desires without paying the political price. He also noted that the secret normalization process has become overt, and this means that the Arab Peace Initiative has been cancelled and that the Palestinians must depend on themselves.”

Fatah criticizes Israel for its “mechanism of violence and oppression” during the March of Return in Gaza, eulogizes “unarmed” participants killed by Israel
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Sept. 30, 2018
Headline: "Fatah: The occupation's crimes cannot pass without punishment"

"The Fatah Movement emphasized that the occupation's crimes against the unarmed members of our people in the Gaza Strip cannot pass without punishment. The movement emphasized in a statement by [Fatah] Spokesperson Atef Abu Saif that the Israeli mechanism of violence and oppression will not succeed in stopping the struggles of our people and the escalation of its encounter in defense of its land and rights. It added that the occupation state's crimes are being committed in the shadow of international silence, in blatant violation of international law.

Fatah eulogized the heroic Martyrs (Shahids) that ascended [to Heaven] today [Sept. 30, 2018] during the March of Return (i.e., violent riots on the Gaza Israel border; see note below), while recording another epic [in the history] of our heroic people. The movement emphasized that our people is continuing the struggle until achieving the final goals of its struggle, and the occupation state and its violence will not frighten it.
[Fatah] also emphasized that our people is continuing its path and its struggle, whatever the price may be."

"The March of Return"
refers to massive violent riots in Gaza, in which thousands of Palestinians are rioting on the border with Israel and attempting to cut through the security fence, attacking with firebombs, flaming kites, and gunfire. The riots began on March 30, 2018, and were scheduled to last for 6 weeks until Palestinian "Nakba" Day on May 15.

PLO official condemns the American decision to add the head of Hamas terror organization to “terror list”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 2, 2018
Headline: “The PLO factions oppose that Haniyeh is being added to the terror list”

“The PLO yesterday [Feb. 1, 2018] announced its opposition to the American decision to add Hamas Movement political bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh to what is known as ‘the terror list’ of the American Department of the Treasury.
The National and Islamic Forces and factions also condemned the decision. PLO Executive Committee Secretary, [Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat expressed his condemnations of and opposition to the American decision in a statement.
Erekat called to ‘remove the causes for division [between the factions] and to realize the national unity in order to defend the Palestinian national project and deal with the plots to eliminate it.’”

Palestinian National and Islamic Forces - an unaffiliated coordinating body comprised of representatives from factions in the PLO and outside the PLO. The Palestinian National and Islamic Forces were established in 2000 shortly after the start of the PA terror campaign (the second Intifada, 2000-2005), under the authorization of Yasser Arafat and the leadership of terrorist Marwan Barghouti. During the PA terror campaign it played an active role in coordinating political efforts and terror attacks against Israel, but since the end of the campaign it has been less significant and its activity is primarily centered in Gaza.
Fatah official: “There must be a comprehensive agreed upon national strategy;” Hamas official: “We are continuing our intifada against Trump’s decision [to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital]”
Source: Donia Al-Watan (independent Palestinian news agency), Dec. 9, 2017
Headline: “Fatah: There is a need for one struggle strategy; Hamas: We will not stop the intifada”
“Head of the Information Office of the Fatah Movement’s Mobilization and Organization Commission Munir Al-Jaghoub said that there must be a comprehensive agreed upon national strategy regarding what is happening in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Al-Jaghoub said in an interview with [the independent Palestinian news agency] Donia Al-Watan: ‘There must be a comprehensive struggle strategy with all of the national and Islamic activity factions in order to reach one result, and that is the realization of national independence and getting rid of the Israeli occupation.’ He added: ‘The strategy must operate on three fronts - the first: strengthening the popular resistance on the ground...
Hamas leader Dr. Ismail Radwan noted that the grave escalation that the Israeli occupation has carried out constitutes a continuation of the massacres and crimes against the Palestinian people.
He said: ‘We say to the Israeli occupation: Your crimes will not pass without a price and we will not stop the intifada for the freedom of Jerusalem and the West Bank, and we are continuing our intifada against [US President Donald] Trump’s decision [to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital], and this pure blood will be a curse upon him and fuel for the resistance.’ Radwan called on the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank to persecute the settlers in response to the aggression taking place in the cities.”

Fatah official on Hamas disarmament: “As long as there is an occupation, it is forbidden to cancel any of the expressions of the resistance... It is necessary to keep the weapons... and honor them only when it will be worthwhile for us”
Source: Falestinona, website of Fatah's Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, Nov. 30, 2017
“The Al-Quds monthly (i.e., the magazine of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon) conducted an interview with Fatah Movement Central Committee member [and Fatah Commissioner for Arab and China Relations] Abbas Zaki…
[Question:] Have you discussed the matter of Hamas’ weapons?
[Abbas Zaki:] Our viewpoint is that as long as there is an occupation, it is forbidden to cancel any of the expressions of the resistance, and one is welcome to use clean weapons against the enemy. However, it is forbidden that this use of weapons be subordinate to a faction or the caprice of a group, but rather [it should be subordinate] to a national decision... We in the Fatah Movement laid the foundations of the culture of resistance, and if not for us, no one would be carrying weapons. Therefore, the talk about weapons needs to be conducted respectfully and with caution, as the weapons are a security balance, and the circumstances do not allow using them currently because we are part of a defeated nation and armies that are fighting each other. It is necessary to keep the weapons, develop them, and honor them (sic., apparently intent is “use them”) only when it will be worthwhile for us and harmful for the enemy. Based on this, the option of popular resistance is what is on the agenda, but it is necessary to find a specific definition for the popular resistance so that in the end it will lead to civil disobedience and in it all of the means will be used in order to disprove the democracy of ‘Israel’ and expose it as an apartheid entity.”

Fatah spokesman: Israel’s demand to disarm Hamas, following Fatah-Hamas unity talks, is “unacceptable, unrealistic, and impossible to implement”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 8, 2017
“In everything regarding the subject of [Hamas-Fatah] reconciliation, [Official Fatah Spokesman and Fatah Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Ideology Nasser] Al-Qidwa welcomed the steps that have been implemented until now… In everything regarding the weapons of the factions, Al-Qidwa noted that these are known factions (such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and not organizations such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda –Ed.) He noted that there are different and perhaps conflicting approaches, such as the Israeli approach and the Palestinian approach. Regarding the Israeli approach, which impertinently interferes in order to sabotage the reconciliation and demands the disarmament [of Hamas], Al-Qidwa emphasized that this is unacceptable, unrealistic, and impossible to implement. He said that in general, disarmament will take place either through war or a political settlement, and noted that Israel has attempted war three times, and has not succeeded in disarming [Hamas]. Regarding a settlement, Al-Qidwa said that it is not on the horizon, and that if there will be initial signs of a settlement ‘we will talk about the subject when the time comes.’”

“Fatah Movement Spokesman [and Fatah Revolutionary Council member] Osama Al-Qawasmi said in response to the American position towards the reconciliation that the Palestinian [Fatah-Hamas] reconciliation and national unity are an internal affair in which nobody has the right to interfere.
US President [Donald Trump’s] envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt said today [Oct. 19, 2017] that ‘any Palestinian government that is established under the guarantee of the reconciliation agreement will be forced to unambiguously commit to the Quartet [ US, EU, Russia, and UN] conditions, abandon violence, recognize the State of Israel, and accept the previous agreements and obligations that were signed between the PA and Israel, including disarmament and a commitment to peaceful negotiations. If Hamas is interested in any role in a Palestinian government, it must accept these basic requirements.’ Al-Qawasmi added to [the independent Palestinian news agency] Wattan that Fatah will not allow anyone, and particularly not the occupation state, to veto the Palestinian reconciliation."
