PLO official: Trump and Netanyahu are "two sides of the coin of racism"

“Secretary-General of the Palestinian People’s Party (i.e., a PLO faction) Bassam Al-Salehi said that the new American administration led by [US President] Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu are two sides of the coin of racism and the occupation’s perpetuation.
Al-Salehi added in a statement that reached [the independent Palestinian news agency] Ma’an that ‘The previous American administrations were biased and partners of the occupation, and strove to defend it in all of the international circles, alongside the military and material support that they provided it. However, the new American administration is also an ideological partner of the idea of occupation and racism that the Netanyahu government is implementing, and this presses the occupation towards greater expansion, aggression, and annexation, including ratification of what is called the Regularization Law that legalizes the theft of Palestinian lands.’
He continued: ‘Our people’s place is alongside the peoples of the world who currently are expanding their activities against the racist American policy.’…
He called on the young Palestinians to broaden the campaign of creating contact, including through the social networks, with the forces opposing Trump and racism, and also to broaden the boycott campaign, and to organize activities in conjunction with their struggle with the forces opposing racism in a manner that will serve our people’s struggle against the occupation and racism.
He said: ‘This reality confirms, in a manner that leaves no room for argument, the failure of the policy that gambles on the US, and strengthens the need to immediately end the rift [between Fatah and Hamas], to strengthen the resolve of our people, and to build a unified front for the popular uprising (i.e., including violence).’”
Regularization Law - intended to validate and finalize registration of land in the West Bank with the Civil Administration in cases where any private claimant makes claims to lands that were thought to be government land after communities have already been built on the land in good faith - i.e., without the knowledge that the land was privately-owned - or with government support. The law will do so by transferring use of the land to the community in question providing a mechanism to compensate claimants to ownership of the land if their claims are validated. The law is intended to provide protection for Israeli towns in the West Bank established and built with Israeli government support from later claims of ownership by private individuals, similarly to existing laws in Israel in regard to property claims made for land on which government sanctioned communities have already been built. Currently, Israeli homes in a number of towns in the West Bank are vulnerable to claimants demanding their demolition, even if claims are only made long after families built their homes and are residing there.
Compensation: In cases of validated claims the Regularization Law expropriates the use of the land for the community's use until such a time as the final status of the area is determined, and states that the owner will be entitled to damages of 125% of the value of the land before the community was built, or alternative plots of land, according to his choice.
The law would not apply retroactively to cases already heard by the Israeli Supreme Court.
The law was ratified on Feb. 6, 2017.
