PA holds off decision to pension off workers in Gaza, awaits Hamas’ response to Abbas’ call for end of rift

Headline: “Al-Helo to Donia Al-Watan: The decision to pension off 6,145 public employees from Gaza has not been carried out”

“Head of the [PA] Palestinian Pension Authority Majed Al-Helo said that the decision to pension off 6,145 public employees from the Gaza Strip early, which was made by the Palestinian [PA] government a month ago, remains stuck, and he noted that the implementation of the decision depends on the Hamas Movement’s response to [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas’ call (i.e., his call to end the Fatah-Hamas rift in order to confront Israel together over the Temple Mount unrest, where Israel placed metal detectors following a terror attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered; see note below. Israel decided to remove the detectors on July 24, 2017).
Al-Helo said in a special statement to [the independent Palestinian news agency] Donia Al-Watan that the decision has not been implemented until now, and the authority has not begun any steps regarding pensioning off public employees from Gaza. He emphasized that the authority will not begin to implement the decision, unless the [PA] leadership receives a negative response from the Hamas Movement.”
