PA news agency accuses Israel of 1982 massacre carried out by Christian Phalangists

Headline: “Tomorrow is the 35th anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre”

“Tomorrow, Saturday [Sept. 16, 2017], is the 35th anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre that took place on Sept. 16, 1982, at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon…
The massacre began after a siege by the Israeli army led by [Israeli] Minister of War (sic., Defense) Ariel Sharon and [Israeli Army Chief of Staff] Rafael Eitan. This massacre was carried out far from the media outlets, and in it small arms and the like were used in the acts of eliminating the residents of the camp, and the Israeli army’s mission was to surround the camp and light it up at night with flares (s ic., the Israeli army was unaware of the Christian Phalangists’ intentions and did not have a “mission” in the massacre).
The Israeli occupation army and the South Lebanon Army, which cooperated with it, surrounded the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps, and hundreds of armed people were let in on the pretext of searching for Palestinian fighters, while there were only children, elderly people, and women in the camp (s ic., the overwhelming majority of those killed were men). The armed people murdered the women and children and most of the bodies were left in the streets of the camp, and afterwards the Israeli bulldozers came in to sweep away the camp and destroy the homes in order to hide the crime (sic., Israel did not try to hide the incident but held the Kahan Commission of Inquiry to investigate it).”

Sabra and Shatila – Sabra and Shatila are Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. In 1982, during the first Lebanon War, Muslim residents of the camps were massacred by Christian Phalangists. The PA has a longstanding policy of falsely accusing Israel of committing the massacre or actively helping to carry it out.
