PA Foreign Ministry claims Israel’s goal is to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to “build the alleged Temple”

“The [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that the attack against people who are secluding themselves in the Al-Aqsa Mosque [according to the Ramadan custom] by the occupation authorities and their branches is a severe escalation and blatant Jewish interference in the Islamic religion. [It added that this escalation] sends very severe messages regarding the site, which forewarns that the Al-Aqsa Mosque will not remain a holy site for the Muslims, but rather will gradually and in practice become a place of worship of Jews, and will threaten to take the conflict to a religious and dangerous place.

In a statement yesterday [May 22, 2019], the ministry demanded true intervention from the Arab and Islamic nations in order to defend Jerusalem’s Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount). [It demanded] this before the occupation authorities, the settler associations, and what is called ‘the Temple Organization Headquarters’ (see note below –Ed.) destroy it in order to realize their goals and build the alleged Temple.”

“Temple organizations” refer to religious Jewish movements including the Temple Mount Institute, the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, the Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount, and Students for the Temple Mount, which spread awareness of the importance of the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage people to visit the site.
