Israel is "playing with fire" at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and "will get burned," Jewish history on the Temple Mount is "false and fake," say Islamic institutions in Jerusalem

Headline: “The Supreme Muslim Council and the Council of Clergy and Preachers in Jerusalem: Whoever plays with fire will get burned!”

“[The independent organization] the Supreme Muslim Council and the Council of Clergy and Preachers in Jerusalem published a statement yesterday [Aug. 5, 2019] in which they warned against the media reports,  according to which extremist right-wing Jewish groups have submitted a request through social media to the so-called ‘Israeli Minister of Public Security’ [Gilad Erdan] to extend the times of invading the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to hold tours and pray (a request was made to open the Temple Mount to Jews on Tisha B'Av, and for longer hours than usual; Israel currently does not allow Jews to pray there; see notes below –Ed.)!

[These groups] also demanded to remove the Islamic Waqf’s hand from the Al-Aqsa Mosque and allow the so-called ‘Israeli Ministry of Religious Services’ to manage what they call ‘the Temple Mount’!

The statement said: ‘This is what they think, this is what they imagine, and this is what they demand. This means that these extremists have begun to play with fire, and they will be burned by it due to their exaggeration, arrogance, pride, and blatant harming of the rights of the other.

The statement… emphasized the following principles:

3. The occupying government of Israel bears responsibility for harming the sanctity of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, because this government supports these extremist groups and defends them out of electoral considerations and political interests…

5. We repeat again and again that whoever approaches the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is playing with fire, and they will get burned! The Israeli narrative about the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites in it is false and fake, and therefore it is unacceptable and we do not recognize it.”

Break-in/Invasion/attack of Al-Aqsa Mosque - The PA and its leaders misrepresent all of the Temple Mount as an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore, they vilify any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock. Israeli police ban Jewish prayer at the Temple Mount because of threats of violence by Palestinians. Preceding the Tisha B'Av fast in August 2019, the Students for the Temple Mount organization petitioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan, and the commanders of the Jerusalem district police to open the Temple Mount on Tisha B' Av, and for longer hours than usual.

Tisha B'Av - Jewish day of mourning commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem (586 BCE and 70 CE) and the forced exile of most of the Jewish people from the land of Israel.
