National and Islamic Forces cause US embassy event to be canceled; Trump peace plan “is meant to eliminate the national cause”

Headline: "Bakr: The [Palestinian National and Islamic] Forces and the popular will thwarted an American conference for young people from being held in Ramallah"

"[Palestinian] National [and Islamic] Forces Coordinator in the Ramallah and El-Bireh District and member of the [Palestinian] People's Party (i.e., a PLO faction) Central Committee Issam Bakr announced yesterday [Aug. 19, 2019] that the conference for young people that the American embassy in the occupation state wanted to hold in Ramallah tomorrow (Wednesday) has been thwarted.

Bakr spoke at a joint press conference with the Fatah Movement’s Ramallah and El-Bireh Branch Secretary Muwaffaq Sahwil, which was convened across from the hotel that was supposed to hold the conference in order to announce its cancellation.

The two spokesmen said that this is the result of a national effort and popular will…

Bakr announced that the management of the Grand Park Hotel in Ramallah notified the US embassy that it would not be able to host the conference… since the [National and Islamic] Forces had contacted it and local parties who were invited for this purpose.

The two senior officials noted that this conference – which came a number of weeks after the economic workshop in Bahrain (i.e., refers to US-led conference in June 2019 focusing on economic aspects of US President Donald Trump's as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan) and a number of weeks before the expected announcement of the political part of the deal of the century (i.e., Trump's Middle East peace plan) – is another of the Trump administration's efforts to realize its plan, which is meant to eliminate the national cause and the Palestinian people's rights to our national land.

Regarding the reasons for the harsh Palestinian opposition to the conference… Bakr said: 'The opposition stems from a basic position regarding the deal of the century plot, and from the fact that the invitation was meant to destroy the Palestinian national fabric and shake the internal stability. This was in a way that might create a breach through which the American initiative – which is completely in line with the occupation's policy and its aspirations – could be imposed as a fact on the ground.’"

Palestinian National and Islamic Forces - an unaffiliated coordinating body comprised of representatives from factions in the PLO and outside the PLO. The Palestinian National and Islamic Forces were established in 2000 shortly after the start of the PA terror campaign (the second Intifada, 2000-2005), under the authorization of Yasser Arafat and the leadership of terrorist Marwan Barghouti. During the PA terror campaign it played an active role in coordinating political efforts and terror attacks against Israel, but since the end of the campaign it has been less significant and its activity is primarily centered in Gaza.
