PLO official calls to stop using religious rulings or tribal norms to resolve legal cases

“PLO Executive Committee member and Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) Political Bureau member Tayseer Khaledcalled to raise the prestige of the rule of law in everything concerning our societal life, and not to take lightly the resolution of cases of legal transgression through religious rulings or tribal norms, as happens in many cases under empty excuses claiming to protect social peace and values, customs, and traditions.

Khaled expressed surprise at those who claim that societal conflicts must be resolved and crimes of murder and familial violence and so-called crimes of honor and others between individuals and groups must be decided through tribal norms or any other factor that has no connection to the authorities protecting and implementing the law,because this contributes to strengthening the relevant institutions and authorities and gives them a possibility to apply the rule of and respect for the law and strengthen security and peace in the society, since daily life refutes this and proves exactly the opposite.”
