PLO official calls for all form of popular resistance against Israel and the US administration

“PLO Executive Committee member and Secretary-General of the Palestinian Democratic Union FIDA Saleh Rafat said: ‘The recurring Israeli statements regarding the annexation of the Jordan Valley and the legalization of settlement, the latest of which were [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and [Israeli opposition leader Benny] Gantz’s statements, are the essence of the extremist Netanyahu government’s policy with the support of the American administration.’

In a statement to [the official PA] radio [station] The Voice of Palestine yesterday, Wednesday [Jan. 22, 2020], Rafat called on the leadership and our people to react against the occupation government and the American administration through a pan-Palestinian popular confrontation with all the types of popular resistance (i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror).”

Saleh Rafat also holds the role of head of the PLO Military and Security Department.

The terms "peaceful uprising/resistance,” and “popular uprising/resistance" are used by PA leaders at times to refer to peaceful protest and at times to refer to deadly terror attacks and terror waves. For example, ‎Mahmoud Abbas defined as “peaceful popular” the murderous terror during the 2015-2016 ‎terror wave (“The Knife Intifada”), in which 40 people were killed (36 Israelis, 1 Palestinian, 2 Americans and 1 Eritrean) and hundreds wounded in stabbings, shootings, and car ramming attacks.
