Israel “has been the terrorist from 1947 until today” states Abbas, while simultaneously claiming that Israel has "no authority to decide who is a terrorist and who is not a terrorist"

Headline: “The [PA] president: We want a political solution, the State of Palestine in the 1967 borders, and we will not agree to less than this”

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas inaugurated the new general headquarters of the central elections committee in El-Bireh yesterday [Nov. 9, 2021]…

The president mentioned how the Israeli occupation accused Palestinian organizations of terror (refers to banning of six Palestinian NGOs for being arms of the PFLP terror organization in October 2021 -Ed.), and said that… ‘The Israeli government has no authority over this land and the cities in this land such that it could decide who is a terrorist and who is not a terrorist, and I tell them to ask themselves who has been the terrorist from 1947 until today.’

The president continued: ‘These cases that they are revealing now and speaking about and saying how they stole the Palestinian people’s money and stole the Palestinian people’s land and property 73 years ago – and now they speak about terror and also about their properties in Sheikh Jarrah (refers to court rulings against illegal Arab squatters in the Jerusalem neighborhood; see note below -Ed.)? What properties are they talking about? Properties 200 years ago (sic., the properties belong to Jews who were expelled in the 1948 Israeli War of Independence). Okay, 70 years ago I had properties in all of Palestine. UN Resolution [181] gave me 45% of Palestine, where is it (the Arabs rejected the UN partition plan and attacked Israel -Ed.)? They took it, they negated it. I want it, I want my right, I want my land, I want our home and our property that they stole, I want compensation for what happened to us… We want to build our land and we want there to be a democracy in our land like the rest of the peoples of the world. Is it logical that we are the only people in the world that is under occupation? Why are we the only people in the world that is not enjoying its right to independence? Why?”

The Sheikh Jarrah protests – Israeli courts have ruled that four Palestinian families living in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem are to be evicted because they are living illegally in properties owned by Jews who were expelled in the 1948 Israeli War of Independence. The Palestinian residents were offered to stay if they would pay rent, but they refused and instead appealed to the Israeli Supreme Court. In April 2021 the planned eviction led to clashes between Palestinian residents and Israeli police, which continued into May and served as one of the pretexts for further violent rioting during the Fatah/Hamas Riot and Rocket War 2021. A hearing scheduled by the Supreme Court for May 10, 2021, was postponed following intensified Palestinian riots and unrest both in Sheikh Jarrah and in East Jerusalem in general.

UN Resolution 181 (the UN partition plan for Palestine) was passed by the UN General Assembly in 1947. It called for the partition of the British Mandate of Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem as a separate entity under the rule of a special international body. The Arab state was meant to be comprised of the western Galilee, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, and the remaining territory of the Mandate west of the Jordan River would be the state of Israel - Jordan (known at the time as Transjordan) had already been established in what had been the part of the Mandate that was east of the Jordan River. The resolution was accepted by the Jewish Agency for Palestine, but Arab leaders and governments rejected it, and launched a war to destroy Israel.
