Abbas seeks recognition of Palestine as a UN member state

PA TV News broadcasts interview with PA Chairman Abbas from Russia Today TV, an Arab TV channel in Russia:
Abbas:
"We went to the [UN] Security Council in order to ask for recognition of the State of Palestine as a UN member state. Since '47, since [UN] Resolution 181 which established two states – a State of Israel and a State of Palestine – the State of Israel arose, while the State of Palestine did not arise. Sixty-four years later, we want this state to arise."

Note: UN Resolution 181 was the Partition Plan of the British Mandate for Palestine. It referred to the partition into two states as “Independent Arab and Jewish States.” In keeping with his refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, Abbas, his statement, did not refer to a Jewish state but to “a State of Israel”
