Palestinian woman decides to marry terrorist prisoner without ever meeting him in person

Headline: “Commitment to a life sentence”

“Last July [2021], Sanabel, 32, from Qalqilya came to visit her brother Shaher Al-Ra’i who was in administrative detention (PMW was unable to determine the nature of his crimes -Ed.). Through the visitors’ window she became closely acquainted with Basel [Al-Asmar] (i.e., terrorist, murdered an Israeli governmental minister together with an accomplice), 46, whom she had once heard about and who had appeared in the news headlines after he and a number of his comrades were accused of assassinating former [Israeli] Minister of Tourism Rechavam Ze’evi on Oct. 17, 2001, and he was arrested by the occupation and his home was demolished that same year.

Sanabel did not expect that the first meeting with Basel would lead to a relationship, but it was enough for Basel to take a liking to her and afterwards he asked her brother prisoner Shaher for her hand [in marriage].

Sanabel announced her relationship with Basel several days ago through her Facebook page, and their wedding party will be held this Saturday [March 12, 2022]. His [the prisoner’s] brother Nael will represent him at the wedding, and then she will be able to visit him and meet him for the first time, even if only through a glass wall.

Sanabel emphasized: ‘I am completely convinced about this step, and my fate is connected with that of Basel who is serving a life sentence, but I have a strong belief that he will leave [prison] sooner or later and will not remain in prison for a long time, and I will continue to wait for him.’”
