PA Grand Mufti "warned that the consequence of the aggression" of Jews praying at Temple Mount "will be the outbreak of a fierce religious war"

“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Muhammad Hussein warned against the consequences of the occupation court’s decision to allow settlers to hold Talmudic (i.e., Jewish) rituals during the invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque (refers to Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court ruling on May 22, 2022, in favor of Jewish youths arrested for praying at the Temple Mount; the ruling was overturned by the Jerusalem District Court on May 25, 2022 -Ed.).

In a statement yesterday [May 23, 2022], the grand mufti said: ‘This is a most dangerous decision that paves the way for implementing the extremist settlers’ plan to take control of the Al-Aqsa Mosque… This is one of the arbitrary decisions being made as part of the extremist policy that the occupation authorities and their extremists are following in order to harm Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and this is to impose their rule over them and build the alleged Temple.’He warned that one of the consequences of this aggression will be the outbreak of a fierce religious war.

The mufti emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs to the Muslims only, and that no one else has the right to interfere in its affairs. He added that the Palestinians are prepared to sacrifice that which is most precious to them to defend their mosque, regardless of the sacrifices…

[PA] Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Fadi Al-Hadmi warned against the consequences of the Israeli Magistrate’s Court decision to allow extremists to hold Talmudic rituals during their invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He warned that the occupation’s courts have no authority over the mosque…

Al-Hadmi continued: ‘The decision, which came at the same time as public Israeli calls to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and allow the most extreme settlers to hold the so-called [Jerusalem Day] ‘flag march’ in occupied Jerusalem, is tantamount to an explicit call to inflame the situation and drag the region – and even the entire world – into the furnace of religious war.’

He said: ‘We must restore the historical and legal situation that was before the Israeli occupation in 1967, as the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship for Muslims only.’ …

The [PLO] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Sites warned against the dangerous consequences of the occupation court’s decision…

In a statement, the council said that the court’s decision constitutes a scandalous blow to the sanctity of the Muslims’ holy sites and a dangerous provocation that cannot be agreed to or met with silence.

The council emphasized that the Israeli courts have no legitimacy or authority to issue rulings regarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It added that their rulings are invalid, devoid of any legal effect, and unable to give the Jews a historical or religious right to the Al-Aqsa Mosque…

It also emphasized that the Palestinians will not sit idly by in light of any attempt to harm the Islamic identity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that they will continue to defend it regardless of the sacrifices that will be made as a result of this.

Muhammad Hussein also serves as Deputy Secretary-General and acting Secretary-General of the PLO Popular National Conference of Jerusalem.

The PA and its leaders misrepresent all of the Temple Mount as an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore, they vilify any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock. Israeli police ban Jewish prayer at the Temple Mount because of threats of violence by Palestinians.
