Violent Arab riots “imposed Palestinian sovereignty” on Jerusalem, says PA TV
Official PA TV, special broadcast on violent Arab riots in Israel and Hamas rocket barrages fired from the Gaza Strip
Official PA TV reporter: “The Arab residents of Jerusalem swept the settlers away from [the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City]. This is a great accomplishment that they celebrated, but as we have said this has aroused the Israeli police’s resentment.” …
Official PA TV newsreader: “The events that took place in occupied Jerusalem, the Sheikh Jarrah [neighborhood of Jerusalem], and the Al-Aqsa Mosque have proven the fragility and lie of the Israeli claims that the sovereignty in Jerusalem is Israeli. Even the settlers’ procession (i.e., the traditional Jerusalem Day Israeli flag march) is unable to set out except under protection from the Israeli police.”
Reporter: “Yes really, in other words, these events and especially in recent days have actually proven how much this sovereignty is fake and does not actually exist. In effect, the Palestinians have proven that the sovereignty is theirs in the city and in this area. We have been witness to this today [May 10, 2021] – fear and shock among the settlers, even in the shadow of the Israeli occupation forces’ protection, even in the shadow of its protection and all the power possessed by these forces. They did not dare to proceed to here and did not dare to march in their customary procession. Therefore, we are actually talking about clear Palestinian sovereignty that has been imposed on this site. The Arabs of Jerusalem have imposed the current reality on the Israeli authorities, who despite the oppression and despite their attempts and the intimidations that they have been committing since the beginning of the blessed [Muslim fasting] month of Ramadan and to this day, and the escalation in the last three days – all of this did not constitute a deterrent for the young Arab people of Jerusalem… The complete opposite is true, we are witness to a strengthening of their presence here, their resolution, them also being in this area, and the imposition of Palestinian sovereignty, which it is no longer possible to doubt its existence and its imposition on Jerusalem…
Regarding the [Israeli flag] procession, it was expected that 30,000 [Israelis] would participate in it, close to 30,000 participants, but that did not happen and actually it was cancelled in the end. This is a procession that wanted to strengthen the settlement and the Jewish presence in Jerusalem. In effect, all of these goals did not succeed and failed, and the settlers returned disappointed as we saw them.”

Official PA TV broadcast this during ongoing violent Arab riots in Jerusalem and other mixed Jewish-Arab cities in Israel, and on the evening of the day when Hamas and Islamic Jihad started firing thousands of rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israeli population centers.
