“Fatah Movement Central Committee member and [Fatah] Commissioner for Arab and China Relations Abbas Zaki said… that the payment of the salaries and allowances of the families of the prisoners and the Martyrs (Shahids) symbolizes their loyalty and the return to the glowing ember of the Palestinian national struggle, and that the prisoners and Martyrs are the symbol of heroism for our people due to their sacrificing their lives and freedom for the Palestinian cause. He said: ‘We will starve and go naked and we will not submit to the American-Zionist blackmail. The Palestinian leadership, led by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, will remain loyal to the Martyrs’ families and the prisoners’ families.’”
