Fatah official: The “ominous” Balfour Declaration led to Israel’s establishment

“The occupation forces yesterday [Nov. 2, 2017] arrested Jerusalem activist Muhammad Abu Najma and Secretary of the Fatah Movement Beit Hanina branch Amer Awad in front of the British consul in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in central occupied Jerusalem during a protest vigil to mark the 100th anniversary of the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration).
Fatah Revolutionary Council member Adnan Ghaith said: ‘This vigil was organized by the Jerusalem activists and institutions and the national forces due to the continuing boasting of the government of Britain in its insistence on celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Promise, this ominous promise that gave the green light to the occupier to establish a state on the land of Palestine.’”
The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
