PA religious officials: The Al-Aqsa Mosque is "being subjected to an unprecedented attack." Israel has "plots to destroy it and build the alleged Temple on its ruins"

        “His Honor the [PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories [and Palestinian Supreme Fatwa Council Chairman] Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, His Honor Acting Jordanian Supreme Shari’ah Judge Dr. Wasef Al-Bakri, Director of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Omar Al-Kiswani, and Deputy District Governor of Jerusalem Abdallah Siyam yesterday [April 2, 2018] in occupied Jerusalem welcomed a Canadian parliamentary delegation, which is currently visiting Palestine in order to get to know the true situation on the ground of the occupied State of Palestine…
His honor the mufti… spoke about the dangers surrounding the sites that are holy to Islam and Christianity, and particularly the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque that is being subjected to an unprecedented attack, an increasing rate of change of its Islamic character, and actions to divide it according to areas and times, which will lead to the ignition of a religious war in the region. He also mentioned the plans of settlement and its goals in the Jerusalem area, and explained that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, whose territory is 144 dunams (i.e., approximately 35.6 acres), is a purely Islamic site and an inseparable part of the Palestinian territories that were occupied in 1967, and international law and the relevant regulations apply to them.
Sheikh Omar Al-Kiswani briefed the Canadian delegation regarding all of the Israeli violations against the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount)… and mentioned the plots to destroy it and build the alleged Temple on its ruins.”

The PA and its leaders falsely claim that all of the Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site, and the Western Wall are parts of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they vilify any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount as an “attack” on the mosque. It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.

"Division according to areas and times" refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount, what the Palestinians call the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza. The law seeks to designate separate prayer times and areas of the site for Muslims and Jews.
However, Israeli PM Netanyahu has stated on many occasions that the Israeli government has no intention of ‎changing the status quo on the Temple Mount, which means Jews are allowed to enter the Temple Mount, but cannot pray there or engage in any type of worship.
