"National personages and Muslim and Christian clergy emphasized their objection to US President Donald Trump's decision about Jerusalem (i.e., to recognize it as Israel's capital)… This was during a meeting that the Commission for Mass Activity in the [PLO] Political [and National] Guidance Authority held today [Feb. 7, 2018] under the auspices of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas… In his speech on behalf of the president, [Fatah Central Committee member and Fatah Commissioner for Arab and China Relations] Abbas Zaki said that US President Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer his country's embassy to it will be thwarted thanks to the Palestinian resolve, thanks to the resolve of the entire world – Muslims, Christians, and Jews – against this foolish decision, and by imposing international isolation on the US and the occupation… He said: 'Our conflict is not with the Jews, but rather with Zionism, which has no values and principles, and which does not attach importance to rights and laws. It includes people that are not Jews and is striving to take over the world's resources by force…
[Zaki] said: 'Our position is strong - we reject that any mosque should constitute an alternative to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. One hundred and thirty-eight states in the world recognize the State of Palestine, and we demand that they revoke their recognition of Israel…'
He added that the Palestinian leadership has objected to the decision to denounce [Chairman of Hamas’ Political Bureau] Ismail Haniyeh as a terrorist (he was added to the US terror list; see note below –Ed.)."

US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
