“The [PA] Ministry of Information said that the statements of US President [Donald Trump’s] lawyer Rudy Giuliani that connected the establishment of the Palestinian state with terror and blamed the PA for being responsible for the ‘freezing of the peace process’ (sic., PMW found no record of this statement; Giuliani did note the PA has not done what was required of it to advance the peace process), are baseless nonsense…
The ministry emphasized in a statement yesterday [June 7, 2018] that Giuliani’s incitement against the members of our people was exposed in his speech at the Capital Market Conference organized by the Israeli paper Globes, in which he claimed that we ‘educate our young to murder,’ and that ‘In the end, there is not much that Israel can do to establish a realistic peace other than defending itself and emphasizing that it cannot live alongside a terror state’ (sic., PMW found no record of this statement; Giuliani did note that Israel understands the PA is not ready to take responsibility and that the PA has not done what was required of it to advance the peace process).
The ministry wondered about the position of a jurist in a superpower [the US] who becomes an advocate of the occupation, incites against the members of our people, and violates the international laws that oppose aggression and settlement!
It said that it is Giuliani’s legal duty to carefully examine the international laws that view Palestine as occupied, and to review the vote of the US on [UN] Security Council Resolution 2334, which again demanded that Israel immediately stop all settlement activity on the occupied Palestinian land, including Jerusalem (see note below –Ed.). He must at least review the latest picture of US Ambassador [to Israel] David Friedman, who took pride in waving a picture presenting the destruction of the Dome of the Rock and the building of the alleged Temple in its place (sic., Friedman stated he was unaware the image would be presented to him, and called it unacceptable; see note below –Ed.).”
UN Resolution 2334 condemned the establishment of Israeli "settlements in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem," saying it "has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace." It demanded that Israel “immediately and completely cease all settlement activities” in the area. The resolution further said “it will not recognize any changes to the 4 June 1967 lines” other than changes made through negotiations, in reference to the 1949-1967 ceasefire line between Israel and the neighboring Arab countries following Israel's 1948 War of Independence.
The resolution called “upon all States… to distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967.” It also called "to prevent all acts of violence against civilians, including acts of terror, as well as acts of provocation and destruction... and to clearly condemn all acts of terrorism," and noted the obligation of "the Palestinian Authority Security Forces to maintain effective operations aimed at confronting all those engaged in terror and dismantling terrorist capabilities."
The resolution was adopted during US President Barack Obama’s final weeks in office and reflected a change in the longstanding US policy of averting UN Security Council resolutions that prejudice or negatively influence direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman was photographed on May 22, 2018, being presented with a doctored aerial photograph of Jerusalem in which the Third Temple is seen in place of the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. The US embassy later said Friedman "was not aware of the image thrust in front of him when the photo was taken. He was deeply disappointed that anyone would take advantage of his visit to Bnei Brak to create controversy. The US policy is absolutely clear: we support the status quo on the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount.” Friedman told the Israeli program Hadashot TV on May 23, 2018: “I was more mortified… than any Palestinian when I saw a picture of myself standing next to that poster. Someone just shoved it in my face and took a picture. Of course that’s unacceptable to me, and the United States respects the status quo on the Haram al-Sharif. That’s really an unfortunate thing, and I felt terrible that people might have reacted to that the way they did.”
