Fatah official expresses PA's support for Syria, whose mutual "enemy", US and Israel; only understands "language of violence"

Headline: “Abbas Zaki talks about the government, the reconciliation, and the deal of the century”

“Fatah Movement Central Committee member and [Fatah] Movement General Commissioner for Arab and China Relations Abbas Zaki said that our relations with Syria are growing closer each day since the enemy is the same enemy, Israel and the US who want to bring down Syria…

Zaki added that the Fatah Central Committee and the Palestinian leadership are following the legendary resolve of Syria with pride and interest, [and] that the visit of a delegation of senior Fatah officials to Syria was made at the right time and was very important…

Zaki also said that during the Fatah delegation’s visit to Syria… the relations between Fatah and the [Syrian] Arab Socialist Party and the other parties that support Syrian President Bashar Assad became closer…

Zaki emphasized that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas is the only Arab leader that has stood before the UN and demanded to stop the aggression against Syria and to find a political solution for the region…

In another matter, Zaki spoke about the formation of the new [PA] government and said: ‘If we want there to be a fundamental change and surprising events, there must be a new government that will be different from all previous governments; the previous governments attempted to provide solutions based on providing everyday services [to the Palestinian people] in the framework of peace, but peace has now come to its end, and the relationship with the US has come to its end following the transfer of the [US] embassy to Jerusalem (see note below –Ed.) and the nullification of the refugees’ right of return.’

At the end of the interview, Abbas Zaki said: ‘We must reexamine our positions and establish the concept of national unity in order to deal with this enemy, who understands only the language of violence. This is because popular resistance has brought down many empires, and there must be true national unity and true unification around President Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO.’”

US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations. The US embassy was transferred from Tel Aviv and opened in Jerusalem on May 14, 2018, the anniversary of Israel's declaration of independence in 1948 according to the Gregorian calendar.
