PLO Chief Negotiator: Israeli decision to cut tax monies is “part of the Israeli-American plan to destroy the PA… Those carrying out normalization with Israel are sticking a knife in the back of the [Palestinian] people”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 18, 2019
“PLO Executive Committee Secretary Saeb Erekat said yesterday [Feb. 17, 2019]: ‘The deduction of the salaries of the prisoners and Martyrs’ (Shahids’) families from the tax money (refers to Israeli law deducting terrorist salaries from PA tax money; see note below –Ed.), which Israel intends to carry out, is part of the Israeli-American plan to destroy the PA, in parallel with disconnecting the Gaza Strip from the West Bank. This plan is the “deal of the century” (refers to US President Donald Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan –Ed.).’
In statements that he gave to [the official PA] radio [station] The Voice of Palestine, he added that Israel will carry out this step after it has denied all of the signed agreements… Erekat turned to the Arabs and said: ‘Those who are going to Warsaw – what are they going for? You spoke about the Arab Peace Initiative. What has changed that you are rewarding [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu?’ He emphasized that those carrying out normalization with Israel are sticking a knife in the back of the [Palestinian] people.”

Official PA TV newsreader: "PLO Executive Committee Secretary [and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat said that on orders from [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, [PA] Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah sent a letter to the American administration in which he demanded that it stop the security aid, if the law called the 'anti-terror' law (i.e., the Anti-Terrorism Clarification Act of 2018; see note below) is implemented. In an interview on the [official] PA TV program Topic of the Day, Erekat said that the American administration officially received the letter four days ago [Jan. 16, 2019], but until now no response to the letter has been received from America.”
Official PA TV reporter: “At a time when the American administration is acting in Congress to implement the law called 'the terror law,' which gives it the right to submit lawsuits against states that receive aid from it, the [PA] leadership sent a sharp letter to the White House administration on the orders of President Mahmoud Abbas, in which it emphasized its relinquishment of Washington's security aid if this law is implemented."

PLO Chief Negotiator: “Hamas must bear the full responsibility for what is happening to the members of our people”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 19, 2019
Official PA TV program Topic of the Day, hosting PLO Executive Committee Secretary, Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat

PLO Executive Committee Secretary, Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat: “Hamas must bear the full responsibility for what is happening to the members of our people – for what is happening when a ship of migrants fleeing the homeland sinks (refers to ship carrying 35 Palestinian illegal migrants, mostly from Gaza, that sank traveling from Turkey to Greece on Jan. 18, 2019, killing 1 –Ed.). And what is this all for? For what? So that they will say that this global movement (possibly refers to Hamas as a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood /- Ed.) has a geographic area named the Gaza Strip?”
PLO Chief Negotiator celebrates the UN’s failure to condemn Hamas and its actions, calls US Ambassador Haley’s defense of Israel “shameful and unethical”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 8, 2018
Headline: "The PLO: What took place at the UN is a victory for the Palestinian unity against the American-Israeli arrogance"

"PLO Executive Committee Secretary [and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat emphasized that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, the PLO Executive Committee, the Fatah Movement Central Committee, and the Palestinian [PA] national unity government granted a victory to the Palestinian unity and placed the supreme Palestinian interests above all other considerations. This was when they stood against the unjust American-Israeli attempts to consider the Hamas Movement a terrorist movement, which [US Ambassador to the UN] Nikki Haley hoped would be the high point of her blind bias in favor of the occupation and her shameful and unethical defense of the war crimes that the occupation authority, Israel, commits. Erekat said in a statement yesterday [Dec. 7, 2018]: 'History will remember unfavorably Nikki Haley’s approach towards the Palestinian people’s legal national rights and its right to freedom, independence, and the realization of the independence of the State of Palestine in the June 4, 1967 borders, whose capital is East Jerusalem.’"

Saeb Erekat also holds the position of PLO Chief Negotiator.

UN Resolution condemning Hamas - The US proposed a resolution to condemn the terror organization Hamas for firing rockets into Israel and inciting violence, and demanding that it and other terrorist groups such as Islamic Jihad cease their terror activities, including the use of airborne incendiaries. The proposal was voted on by the UN General Assembly on Dec. 6, 2018. Although it received a majority of the votes, the proposal did not receive the two thirds needed to be ratified.

“PLO Executive Committee Secretary Saeb Erekat said that… whoever wants to drain the swamp of terror in the region needs to start by ending the Israeli occupation and establishing the independent State of Palestine whose capital is East Jerusalem.”

Olmert offered Abbas 20 sq.km more than size of West Bank, according to PLO Chief Negotiator
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 1, 2018

Official PA TV, Philosophy of Endurance

PLO Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat: "I heard [former Israeli Prime Minister] Olmert say that he offered [Abbas] 100% of the West Bank territory. This is true. I’ll testify to this. He presented a map, and said: 'I want [Israel] to take 6.5% of the West Bank and I’ll give [the PA] 6.5% of the 1948 territory (i.e., Israel) in return.' [Olmert] said to Abbas: 'The area of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip on the eve of June 4, 1967, was 6,235 sq. km. [I] Erekat says: "There are 50 sq. km. of no man's land in Jerusalem and Latrun." We’ll split them between us, so the territory will be 6,260 sq. km.' [I said to Abbas:] 'Olmert wants to give you 20 sq. km. more, so that you could say [to Palestinians]: “I got more than the 1967 territories."' Regarding Jerusalem, [Olmert said:] 'What's Arab is Arab, and what's Jewish is Jewish, and we’ll keep it an open city.' Regarding the refugees, [Olmert] offered him [Abbas] 150,000 refugees... [Olmert] said: 'The refugees’ right to return to the State of Palestine is your law. But regarding Israel, we will accept 150,000 refugees over 10 years. 15,000 [per year] over 10 years.'"

PLO Chief Negotiator demonizes Israel, calls for release of all Palestinian prisoners

"Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee [and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat… said: 'Despite the silence of the international community and its failure in deterring the occupation force and the support of [US President Donald] Trump's administration in strengthening the colonialist occupation, the annexation, the apartheid, and the elimination of the Palestinian cause, the democratic and state of law Palestine, the institutions, and the human rights, Palestine has fulfilled its international responsibilities and obligations and is still waiting for the world to fulfill its political, legal, and ethical obligation towards it and its citizens. This is by translating the declaration of independence into a tangible reality by realizing it in the territory of the State of Palestine whose capital is occupied East Jerusalem in the June 4, 1967 borders; finding a fair solution to the refugee problem according to UN Resolution 194 (see note below –Ed.); the immediate release of all of the prisoners; and forcing Israel to recognize its legal, political, and moral responsibility for the historic injustice that it has committed against another people.'"

Fatah and PLO official says the Balfour Declaration “still inspires the occupation to continue the acts of ethnic cleansing and eliminating the Palestinian presence”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 3, 2018
Headline: “On the 101st anniversary of the Balfour Promise: demanding that Britain correct the historical error”

“The Palestinian National Council (i.e., the legislative body of the PLO) demanded that Britain recognize the Palestinian state whose capital is Jerusalem and the return of the refugees to their homes according to the decisions of the international bodies.
In a statement for the 101st anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the Palestinian National Council again emphasized its demand that the British government act to correct the historical error that it committed when it deceitfully gave the Jews a right to establish a homeland for themselves in Palestine, as part of a historical precedent of injustice, ethnic cleansing, aggression, and violation of the principles of international law…
PLO Executive Committee Secretary Saeb Erekat emphasized that our people, wherever it is located – in the homeland, in the diaspora, and in the refugee camps – will remain fortified in its historical right to self-determination on its land and will not leave, regardless of the price…
He added: ‘Over 100 years ago, Britain facilitated the process of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, and with blatant contempt for the global principles of justice, it celebrated this “event” last year and adhered to and took pride in its colonialist error and its denial of our Palestinian people’s rights. Unfortunately, the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) still inspires the occupation to continue the acts of ethnic cleansing and eliminating the Palestinian presence, alongside the unlimited support of the American administration and its peace team in eliminating the Palestinian cause and redefining it according to a modern colonialist criterion.’”

Saeb Erekat also serves as Fatah Central Committee member and PLO Chief Negotiator.
PLO official and PA congratulate Arab residents of Jerusalem for boycotting the municipal elections, calling the boycott a “slap on the cheek” for Israel
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 1, 2018
Headline: "Official bodies welcome the slap on the cheek that the residents of Jerusalem gave the occupation in its municipal elections"

"PLO Executive Committee Secretary [and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat expressed his appreciation of the firm historic position of the members of our people who are residents of Jerusalem, who did not participate in the occupation's municipal elections in Jerusalem, and refused to legitimize the rule of the occupation, which is implementing a colonialist policy in the city…
The [PA] national unity government congratulated the members of our people who are standing firm in occupied Jerusalem, our eternal capital, for thwarting the latest plot of the occupation, which attempted to have them participate in the occupation's municipal elections."

PLO Chief Negotiator condemns FIFA decision to suspend Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub
Source: WAFA, official PA news agency, Aug. 25, 2018
Headline: "Erekat condemns FIFA’s decision against Rajoub and calls on it to reexamine it"

"Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee, [Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat condemned the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decision against [Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association and Fatah Central Committee Secretary] Jibril Rajoub (FIFA suspended him for a year and fined him 20,000 Swiss francs for incitement; see note below –Ed.).
In a statement he published today (Saturday) [Aug. 25, 2018], Erekat called on FIFA to reexamine the decision, especially in light of the fact that they did not listen to testimony and did not examine the evidence that Rajoub's legal advisor requested [they examine].

He expressed sorrow that the claims and pressures that groups of settlers applied to FIFA succeeded, while the Palestinian bodies were struggling to rein in the policy of Israel – the occupying power – to politicize sport and abuse it in order to whitewash its illegal actions…

He said: 'We condemn Rajoub's sentence and wonder at it, at a time when six football teams that play in the Israeli league on the land of the occupied State of Palestine, which come from illegal colonial settlements, need to be sentenced."
PLO official: US bill to reduce the number of recognized Palestinian refugees is “unacceptable and illegal”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 31, 2018
Headline: "After the cessation of its assistance to UNRWA – the US attempts to reduce the number of refugees"

"Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee, [Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat said that the American plan to legislate a new law, which would recognize only 40,000 refugees instead of 5.2 million, is an unacceptable and illegal matter, which cannot affect the current situation one iota.
Erekat added that the move initiated by American Senator (sic., Representative) Doug Lamborn 'is an inseparable part of the deal of the century (referring to US President Donald Trump's as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan –Ed.), whose goal is to annul the refugees' right [of return], and it is consistent with the racist [Israeli] nation-state law (see note below –Ed.), which constitutes the cornerstone of the suspicious deal.'
He emphasized that the refugees' rights are protected in accordance with UN Resolution 194."

In July 2018 US Representative Doug Lamborn proposed a bill to limit US money allocated to UNRWA until it works to resettle only the original Palestinian refugees.

Jewish Nation-State Law – law passed by the Israeli Parliament on July 19, 2018, which codifies in Israel's Basic Law that Israel is the home of the Jewish nation with Jerusalem its capital, and the Hebrew calendar its official calendar.

UN Resolution 194 (Chapter 11, Dec. 11, 1948) states that "the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return."

PLO officials: “[PA] leadership will continue to pay the salaries of the prisoners”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 6, 2018
“PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi said: ‘The law to deduct the allowances (mukhassasat) of the prisoners and wounded from the tax money, which was passed by the Israeli Parliament (refers to law deducting terror salaries from taxes collected for the PA; see note below –Ed.), is a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and the international conventions, as whoever holds prisoners is obligated to protect their lives and sustenance (the Fourth Geneva Convention relates to civilians in wartime, not terrorists imprisoned for criminal acts –Ed.). This law also contradicts the Paris Agreement, which Israel has violated and which gave it authority to hold direct contact with the world (sic., Israel has always had such authority; the Paris Agreement established economic relations between Israel and the PLO), and it abused this in order to turn us into consumers of Israeli goods.’ …

Erekat explicitly stated that the leadership will continue to pay the salaries (rawatib) of the prisoners, the Martyrs’ families, and the wounded, despite the occupation authorities’ decision to deduct their allowances from the [Palestinian] National Authority’s tax revenues. Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 4, 2018

This is robbery and theft.’ He added: ‘Israel is stealing the land and money of the Palestinian people… Its decision to build new housing units in the settlements (possibly referring to Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman’s May 2018 announcement that Israel plans to approve 3,900 housing units in 30 West Bank towns -Ed.) constitutes theft of the Palestinian people’s land.’ Erekat emphasized that all of this is a result of ‘the decisions of American President Donald Trump, which are encouraging Israel.’”

PLO Chief Negotiator says Israel is "shirking its obligations to pay the salaries" of Palestinian terrorist prisoners, and should "commit itself to paying the allowances of the prisoners"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Mar. 1, 2018
Headline: “The PLO and prisoners’ institutions demanded to cancel the racist legislation against the prisoners”

“The PLO and prisoners’ institutions demanded to cancel [Israel’s] racist legislation against the prisoners in the Israeli occupation’s prisons. This was during a meeting of PLO Executive Committee Secretary, [Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat, Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake, and [PA-funded] Prisoners’ Club President Qadura Fares…
Erekat noted that the [Israeli] law to deduct the prisoners’ allowances (mukhassasat, refers to an Israeli bill; see note below –Ed.) comes as part of an organized incitement campaign to present the Palestinian people’s struggle as a crime and to mislead world public opinion by marking our legal struggle against the occupation as terrorism.
He emphasized that Palestine has been paying the financial price of the occupation in light of [Israel] shirking its obligations to pay the salaries (rawatib) of the prisoners and the families that they provide for, and he mentioned Israel’s obligations as the one holding them [the prisoners], which also include financial obligations according to the Fourth Geneva Convention (sic., the Fourth Geneva Convention does not apply, see note below).
He said: ‘Israel is not only violating international law, but is also stealing and manipulating the prisoners’ money in favor of the occupation state through the extension of their term of imprisonment and the profits that it derives from what the prisoners pay in exchange for their food and their basic commodities for which the occupation state is obligated."

During the PA terror campaign it played an active role in coordinating political efforts and terror attacks against Israel, but since the end of the campaign it has been less significant and its activity is primarily centered in Gaza.

[PA] Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina said: 'This step, which is meant to close the PLO office, is an unprecedented step in the history of the American-Palestinian relations.' In a statement published by [the official PA news] agency WAFA, he added that the closure of the office 'will have severe consequences on the peace process and on the US relations with the Arab world.'"

PLO officials on the Balfour Declaration: “A colonialist promise… [Britain’s] sin;” an "ominous promise”
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 3, 2017
“In response to the latest British statements regarding pride in the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) and the fact that the British government is celebrating it and not apologizing for it (see note below –Ed.), Erekat emphasized: ‘There is no greater shame than to celebrate a colonialist promise in the 21st century. Britain should have used the opportunity to correct its sin, apologize to the Palestinian people for the historical injustice it caused to it, do justice with the victims through compensation among other things, recognize the State of Palestine, and to support the removal of Israel’s immunity, demand an accounting of it, and make it pay the price of its occupation’…
PLO Executive Committee member and Director of the Department for Refugee Affairs Zakariya Al-Agha said: ‘On exactly this day in 1917, Britain issued the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) that gave the Jews the right to establish a national homeland on the land of Palestine... This ominous promise is what led to the expulsion of our people from its homes and property after massacres and crimes were committed against it as part of an international plot.’"

PLO Chief Negotiator condemn US and Israeli demand that next Palestinian government recognize Israel
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Oct. 6, 2017
Headline: "Erekat condemned the demands of the American and Israeli bodies that the next Palestinian government recognize Israel"
"Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee, [Fatah Central Committee member and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat expressed his condemnation of the fact that several political parties in Israel and the US are demanding that the next Palestinian [PA] government recognize Israel. He demanded that [Israel] first recognize the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as that is the only way to reach a final agreement through which the State of Israel will live alongside the State of Palestine in security and peace…
He added: ‘Since when do [political] parties demand to recognize other states? Recognition is a matter of states and governments, and not of parties, and the truth is that not only has the State of Israel not recognized the State of Palestine, but rather the occupation government is currently destroying the possibility that such a state will exist.’"

PA chief negotiator Erekat falsely claims: Israel guilty of incitement and dedicating landmarks to ‘terrorists’, glorifies ‘Zionist terror’

Headline: "Erekat warned against cooperation with the Israeli narrative of incitement"

"Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee[, Fatah Central Committee member, and PLO Chief Negotiator] Saeb Erekat rejected the false accusations and claims that Israel is spreading regarding what it calls 'the official Palestinian incitement.'
Erekat emphasized in a statement this evening, Thursday [June 22, 2017], that the occupation government is working continuously to deflect attention and to find new and misleading excuses such as 'the claims of incitement' every time an opportunity is created to revive the political process, in contrast to the Palestinian leadership that is committed to the two-state solution and the full implementation of international law.
Erekat's response came in the wake of Israel’s ongoing attempts to call our people’s national struggle terror and to turn our fighter Martyrs (Shahids) and prisoners since the outbreak of the Palestinian revolution into criminals.
Erekat explained that the reason that Israel refuses to revive the tripartite committee that deals with incitement stems from the built-in policy of the right-wing government to incite and glorify Zionist terror. He said: 'One example of this is the fact that [Israeli] occupation Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu himself inaugurated a hospital last April that was named after [former Israeli Prime Minister] Yitzhak Shamir, the terrorist responsible for the killing of hundreds of civilians, including [his] issuing the orders to assassinate UN Peace Mediator Count Folke Bernadotte from Sweden, in addition to blowing up the King David Hotel [in Jerusalem], which led to the death of dozens of civilians (Shamir was a leader of the pre-state Jewish militia Lehi that assassinated Count Bernadotte –Ed.)."

PA chief negotiator Erekat: No difference between ISIS terrorism and ‘Israeli occupation terrorism’
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Mar. 5, 2017
Headline: “Erekat: The PLO’s plan will remain in place until the establishment of the State of Palestine”

“[PLO] Executive Committee Secretary [and PLO Chief Negotiator and Fatah Central Committee member] Dr. Saeb Erekat in a press statement discussed the general political situation and the changes that have started to take place in the region and in the world since the US presidential elections…
[Erekat said that] there are large changes that cannot be denied. However, we as Palestinians have not stopped our contact with the new American administration on all levels since Jan. 20 [2017] (i.e., since US President Donald Trump took office), as head of the Palestinian [General] Intelligence [Service] Majid Faraj held a number of meetings and conversations with his colleagues in the US . Afterwards, the head of the American [Central] Intelligence Agency [Mike Pompeo] came and met with [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah [on Feb . 15, 2017]. We as Palestinians, as the president said, will work alongside the Trump administration with full positivity on the two-state solution on the 1967 borders, the peace process option, and the illegality of settlement. The transfer of the American embassy or anything similar means the elimination of the peace process. Our positions are known and very clear, and we have conveyed messages to the American administration in a clear and precise manner. We are part of the region that is experiencing the phenomenon of ISIS and the rest of the revelations of terror. We are against harming Islam, and we are an inseparable part of the war against terror in this region. However, whoever wants to defeat ISIS and ISIS’ terror must start by drying up the swamp of the Israeli occupation, as it is the worst type of terror. There is no difference between a criminal who kills a journalist on behalf of ISIS in Syria and Iraq and a criminal who sets the infant Ali Dawabsheh , his mother, his fat

"[Fatah Central Committee member] and top Palestinian official in charge of negotiations Saeb Erekat said today, Wednesday [Feb. 22, 2017], that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements, according to which Tel Aviv is fighting terror, are a broken record. He emphasized that the Arabs are the ones that are fighting terror, and added: 'Those who are fighting terror and dealing with it are the great Egyptian soldier, the Jordanian soldier, the Iraqi, and the Syrian, and not Israel.'
Erekat added during an interview with journalist Tamer Amin on the Egyptian satellite channel Al-Haya that the solution to the Palestinian issue is the path to security and stability in the region and the basis for vanquishing ISIS and extremism in this region. We are states that are being burned by terror… and no one wants to defeat terror like we Arabs, as ideas are not killed with bullets, but rather this is begun by drying up the Israeli house of occupation and establishing the State of Palestine in the '67 borders."
PLO chief negotiator demands UK “fix this mistake” of the Balfour Declaration “by apologizing to the Palestinian people”
Source: Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Feb. 15, 2017
“PLO Executive Committee Secretary[-General] Saeb Erekat...  said: ‘We have demanded of the government of Britain that it bear its legal, political, and moral responsibility for the historical injustice that the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) caused to the Palestinian people, and to fix this mistake by apologizing to the Palestinian people, doing justice to the victims [of this mistake] upon the passing of 100 years of torment and being refugees, and immediately recognizing the State of Palestine.’
Erekat expressed the opposition of the Palestinian leadership and people to British Prime Minister Theresa May’s announcement of the celebrations to mark 100 shameful years since the Balfour Promise. He described this as a humiliation of our people and the principles of human rights, and added: ‘Instead of celebrating, they should apologize, take practical steps to save the two-state solution from the Israeli dictates, boycott the colonialist settlement system, recognize Palestine, and listen to the will of the British people whose representatives recognized the State of Palestine in the British Parliament [in 2014].’”

PLO official threatens diplomatic steps in response to US embassy move

He noted that this step has not yet been cancelled, and that the leadership has not received any assurances on the issue from any authority.
Erekat explained in an interview with [official PA] radio The Voice of Palestine this morning [Jan. 31, 2017] that if the embassy is transferred to Jerusalem, the leadership will stand before fateful decisions, which will begin with revoking the PLO’s recognition of Israel, signing documents to join 16 international organizations, defining the connection with Israel in the political, economic, and security fields in accordance with the decisions of the [PLO] Central Council, and calling on the occupation authority to apply its full authority over the occupied land (i.e., to take over the responsibility for looking after the Palestinian residents of the West Bank from the PA -Ed.).”

PLO official: If US transfers embassy, PLO will revoke all agreements and ties with Israel
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Jan. 23, 2017
Official PA TV News, telephone interview with Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee and Fatah Central Committee member Saeb Erekat
Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee and Fatah Central Committee member Saeb Erekat: "Transferring the embassy means only one thing: recognition of Israel's decision to annex occupied East Jerusalem. By doing this, the US is saying that the topic of Jerusalem has been resolved, and that Jerusalem - western and eastern – is the capital of the State of Israel. Therefore, the PLO's recognition of Israel cannot continue. The PLO cannot recognize Jerusalem, including East Jerusalem, as the capital of Israel. It is impossible. Therefore, the first step will be revoking the recognition [of Israel]. The second step will of course be revoking the signed agreements, and the decision of the [PLO] Central Council to break off the security and political ties and the negotiations with Israel will be implemented. We will request that Israel be suspended from its membership in the UN General Assembly. We will increase our efforts to receive a judicial ruling from the International Criminal Court to investigate senior Israeli officials regarding the settlements and the aggression against Gaza and the prisoners, in addition to other steps entailed by the transition from the stage of an authority to the stage of a state. In other words, we will have a government that is the PLO Executive Committee, and a Palestinian parliament that is the parliament of the State of Palestine, and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] will also be the president of the State of Palestine, in addition to other steps, such as a call for an Arab and Islamic summit, a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement , and taking the appropriate steps in the Arab and Islamic world against this aggressive position."

“Today [Jan. 16, 2017] Secretary[-General] of the PLO Executive Committee [and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat strongly condemned Britain and Australia’s reservations about the concluding statement of the Paris Peace Conference…

Erekat called on Britain and Australia to bear their historical, political, and legal responsibility and to recognize the State of Palestine. He added: ‘We expected that Britain in particular would fulfill a balanced and just role and be a central and active part of the international alignment opposing the occupation and settlement… especially since our people, which has been the victim of an unfair historical injustice, stands today at the gates of marking the 100th anniversary of the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration). Therefore we call on [Britain] to correct this error and to recognize the State of Palestine, as this constitutes one of the conditions for protecting the two-state solution that it calls to implement.’”

Paris Peace Conference - A peace conference was held in Paris on Jan. 15, 2017, attended by representatives from over 70 countries, but with no representatives from Israel or the PA. The conference issued a declaration calling for a negotiated peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians based on the two-state solution and praising UN Security Council Resolution 2334. Britain and Australia refused to sign the declaration, with Britain arguing that the declaration, which was made as part of the French Peace Initiative, might harden the Palestinian negotiating position, particularly given its timing right before the inauguration of US President Donald Trump’s administration. The following day Britain blocked the EU Foreign Affairs Council from adopting the declaration.

Erekat added in a radio interview yesterday [Jan. 4, 2017] that transferring the embassy to Jerusalem means the destruction of the peace process, and that in doing so the US will turn into part of the problem and will no longer be able to be a mediator in the peace process, which will obligate the [Palestinian] National Council to cancel its recognition of Israel and the agreements that were signed with it.”

It should be noted that Trump on Thursday [Dec. 15, 2016] announced the appointment of the American Jew David Friedman as the US Ambassador to Israel. He is a lawyer who emphasized that he eagerly anticipates fulfilling his mission 'in Israel’s eternal capital, Jerusalem,' as he put it. This constitutes a most sensitive point in the region.
Erekat said in statements to journalists that the status of Jerusalem must be subject to negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, and that making any decision today 'would destroy the peace process.' Erekat explained that Washington, Moscow, and Berlin have understood that the Roadmap has failed and are drawing a new map, and added: ‘We want to tell everyone that the new map must include Palestine, and if Palestine is not on the map, the region will remain in the furnace of violence, extremism, and bloodshed for another hundred years.'

Erekat said that the fact that prisoner Marwan Barghouti (i.e., terrorist who orchestrated three shooting attacks in which 5 were murdered), sentenced to 5 life sentences, stood at the head of the list of candidates of the Fatah Central Committee during the Seventh [Fatah] Conference (i.e., Barghouti received the most votes in the election) constitutes proof that Fatah is a loyal and national movement and a national liberation movement that considers Marwan Barghouti a hero whose natural place is in the Palestinian leadership together with his brothers, the members of the [Fatah] Central Committee, and not behind bars."

Senior PLO official: Releasing terrorists is a precondition for peace
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 3, 2016
“Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee [and Fatah Central Committee member] Dr. Saeb Erekat… said in a speech he gave at the Palestinian National Security Summit held in Gaza that … in regard to everything related to the peace process, ‘We are striving for peace and interested in peace, but everybody must understand that our peace will not be at any price,’ as eternal President Yasser Arafat said and [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas says today. The peace is based on Israel’s retreat to the borders of June 7, 1967 (sic., June 4, 1967), with East Jerusalem as our capital, a solution to the refugee issue according to [UN] Resolution 194, and the release of the prisoners at the time of the signing of the agreement.'”

UN resolution 194 (Chapter 11, Dec. 11, 1948) states that "the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return." Palestinian leaders argue this means that all Arabs who left Israel during the war (hundreds of thousands) and their descendants (a few million) have a "right of return" to Israel. Israel argues that the resolution only calls for a limited return and only under certain conditions, especially focusing on the words "wishing to return... and live at peace with their neighbors."

By Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee and Fatah Central Committee member Saeb Erekat

Israel alone could not have taken over the land of Palestine and planted itself there without Britain and the international community supporting the occupation project and giving it immunity from accountability. Britain gave Palestine to the Jews for free, and its support of the Balfour Promise was the first declared link in the realization and establishment of the occupation of Palestine… In order to atone for the sin of the Balfour Promise, Britain must recognize the State of Palestine in the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital, as one of the conditions for protecting the two-state solution it calls to implement..."

Erekat addressed the history and literature of the occupation state and its doctrine based on killing, ethnic cleansing, and forced expulsion of indigenous residents by saying: ‘Instead of demanding accountability of the racists for their words, and deterring them, the occupation state honors and commemorates from 1948 until this day the memory of those who blew up the King David Hotel and terrorists who committed dozens of massacres against our Christian, Muslim, and Jewish (sic) people, used terror to expel thousands from their land, and released terrorists from the British courts. Likewise, it commemorates the known terrorist Baruch Goldstein, who killed 29 worshippers in the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., the Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron, and for whom the occupation authorities established a memorial (destroyed by the Israeli army in 1999, after legislation forbidding the establishment of memorials to anyone carrying out an act of terror was enacted specifically to address this case –Ed.) in the illegal settlement Kiryat Arba, in a park named after another Israeli terrorist – Meir Kahane.”

Charlie Hebdo for mocking Islam's Prophet Muhammad. Others have compared the terror attacks in France to Israeli "terrorism" against Palestinians, and some have even claimed that Israel was behind the attacks.

Headline: “The president: If the proposed Palestinian resolution does not pass the [UN] Security Council, we will stop the cooperation with Israel”
“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized yesterday [Dec. 23, 2014] that the PA will stop the cooperation with Israel if the proposed resolution about ending the Israeli occupation, proposed to the UN Security Council, fails, according to a report of the Algerian news agency.
President Abbas, who completed his three-day visit to Algeria, said: ‘If the Arab-Palestinian proposal to end the occupation that was presented to the Security Council does not pass, we will take a series of political and legal steps which will have consequences.’ He added: ‘If we fail, we will stop all of our cooperation with the Israeli government, and ask it to assume all of its areas of responsibilities as an occupying state.’ The president emphasized in a press conference: ‘We are determined to regain our rights, including the right of return and the release of all the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli prisons. We will not concede to the occupation’s policy of hegemony and tyranny.’
He continued: ‘The Palestinian issue simultaneously constitutes the key to peace and to war in the Middle East.’ …
In Moscow, senior Palestinian negotiator [and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat said yesterday that the PA will sign 16 international conventions, including the founding convention of the International Criminal Court, in case the proposed Palestinian resolution about ending the occupation fails.”

Fatah official: We will never recognize Israel as a Jewish state because it would “cancel our [Palestinian] narrative, our history and our religion”
Source: Official Palestinian Authority TV, Dec. 2, 2014
Official PA TV program The State of Politics hosted Fatah Central Committee member Saeb Erekat.
Saeb Erekat
: “In brief, we cannot accept the Jewish state – Israel as a Jewish state – not today, not tomorrow and not in a hundred years, because whoever accepts Israel as a Jewish state agrees to change his history, his narrative and even his religion. I understand that the State of Israel exists and that we have recognized it. In 1993, there was a mutual recognition. For Israel to come and demand of the Palestinians that they recognize Israel as a Jewish state – what do they want with this? They want us to tell them: ‘Your narrative is true and we, Arabs, are foreigners in this land, and so we will cancel our narrative, our history and our religion.’”
Official PA TV host: “And to confirm that this is a land without a people for a people without a land.”
Saeb Erekat: “Exactly. This will never happen! This is wickedness. This is not the refugee issue or the issue of the 1948 Arabs (i.e., Israeli Arabs). This issue regards our existence, culture, and religion. It is therefore inconceivable that any Palestinian should ever agree that Israel become a Jewish state, for by doing so he would be accepting the Israeli narrative and erasing his own.”
Fatah leader compares Netanyahu to the leader of IS

“Fatah Central Committee member [and PLO chief negotiator] Dr. Saeb Erekat compared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the leader of the Islamic State [IS] organization Omar [sic. – should be Abu Bakr] Al-Baghdadi, in response to Netanyahu’s comparison of Hamas to the extremist [IS] organization as a way of justifying the latest aggression against the Gaza Strip. In response to Netanyahu’s speech to the UN General Assembly, Erekat told AFP: ‘Netanyahu insisted on turning the regional conflict from a political conflict into a religious one.’ He added: ‘Netanyahu tried to export the fear of the Islamic State, led by Omar [sic. – should be Abu Bakr] Al-Baghdadi, but forgot that he, Netanyahu, is the leader of the “Jewish State.”’ He explained: ‘Netanyahu insists on calling the State of Israel a Jewish State, and supports the terrorist settler cells that kill, destroy and burn mosques and churches. It is they who burned the youth Muhammad Abu Khdeir, [just] as Al-Baghdadi’s gangs kill and spread terror.’ … In addition, Erekat said that ‘with his speech, Netanyahu closed all the doors on the two-state solution within the 1967 borders. He rejects any serious political solution, and furthermore, supports the terrorism of the settlers, [just] like Al-Baghdadi.’”

PA official calls for "reconciliation" with Hamas: "Hamas never was and never will be a terrorist movement"
Source: Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Apr. 6, 2014
“Palestinian Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat called on Hamas to implement the Cairo and Doha Agreements (reconciliation attempts between Fatah and Hamas signed in 2012) to allow the people to decide (i.e., hold elections) and realize the national reconciliation...
[Erekat said this] in a speech [he] gave during a meeting on the issue of ‘the state of the negotiations and its horizons,’ held two days ago as part of the third annual conference of the Palestinian Center for Policy Research and Strategic Studies - Masarat, whose title was ‘The Strategy of Resistance’…
Erekat said: ‘We call on Hamas – today more than ever before – to begin implementing the Cairo and Doha Agreements in order to allow the people to decide, because when Palestinian political parties are divided, they must turn to the ballot boxes, not the ammunition boxes.’
He added: ‘I am telling everyone, on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas and the [PLO] Executive Committee, that Hamas is a Palestinian movement, which never was and never will be a terrorist movement. We can agree or disagree with them, but the main thing now is that this step is one of reconciliation. There is no Palestinian state in the Gaza Strip and there is no State of Palestine without the Gaza Strip. If we don’t help ourselves on this matter, no one will help us.’”
PA official calls for cooperation with Hamas and the Islamic Jihad Movement

“As part of a research project, [PA] chief negotiator Saeb Erekat recommended calling for the convening of the National Council as soon as possible, with the participation of Hamas and the Islamic Jihad Movement, and recommended electing a new Executive Committee to serve as the ‘temporary government of the State of Palestine,’ in accordance with the UN decision to recognize the state.
The recommendation was part of a study entitled ‘How to Deal with the US Proposals.’ Erekat proposed [holding] the National Council’s session in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The study also recommended informing the members of the ‘Quartet for Peace’ (i.e., the Quartet on the Middle East) that it would not be possible to extend the negotiations beyond the nine month period, and also recommended renewing joint activities with the ‘peace camp’ in Israel."
PA chief negotiator: Palestinians lived in Jericho 3,000 years before Jews arrived

“Palestinian [chief negotiator] Dr. Saeb Erekat told Israeli [MP and negotiator] Tzipi Livni: ‘My Canaanite family lived in Jericho 3,000 years before the people of Israel came to the city, led by Joshua Bin Nun.’…
[PA] chief negotiator and Palestinian fighter Erekat, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, said this to Livni at the Security Conference in Munich, Germany.
At the same time, Mahmoud Al-Aloul, a member of the Central Committee of that same liberation movement conducting the peaceful popular resistance in Palestine (i.e., Fatah), explained what Jesus, the messenger of love and peace, meant when he said ‘salt of the earth’: [standing] beside the holy stones of the homes in the village of Ein Hijleh in the Jordan Valley, [Al-Aloul] said: ‘The Jordan Valley is Palestinian and the village of Ein Hijleh is [on] the land of the Deir Hijleh church, and was originally a Palestinian Canaanite village on the route connecting the Dead Sea to Beit Shean.”

Official PA TV Live broadcast the first convention of the Palestinian Bar Association Union that discussed “Palestine and International Law.” Fatah Central Committee Member and PA chief negotiator Saeb Erekat represented PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The symbol of the European Union appeared on the banner behind the stage, and an EU representative addressed the gathering.
Fatah Central Committee member Erekat: “Concerning the Israeli side repeatedly saying that Israel is a ‘Jewish state’ – some say they intend to sabotage the refugees’ right to return, by this term. Some say they want to harm the status of Palestinian residents in the ’48 territories (i.e. Israel). You are in the city of Jericho. Our story began in this city 10,000 years ago when the Natufians founded it. The Canaanites were [here] 5,500 years before Joshua burned it down. Whoever asks me to accept Israel as a Jewish state, is asking me to alter my history, to change my religion, to revise my culture. That is not going to happen. He wants us to say it is a Jewish state, meaning that the land belonged to the Jews and that we are strangers to it.”

Note: The Natufian culture was a sedentary, hunter-gatherer, Mesolithic culture that lived in the Levant region of the Near East between about 13,000-9,800 BCE.
PLO member to terrorist prisoners: "The release is near"

“[PLO Executive Committee member Saeb] Erekat spoke during a rally organized two days ago [Jan. 4, 2014] by the Fatah Movement, the [Palestinian] Prisoners’ Club and the [PA] Ministry of Prisoners’ [Affairs] in the Tubas and Northern Jordan Valley District to mark the 49th anniversary of ‘the Launch’ (Intilaqa) of the revolution and the beginning of the [Fatah] movement’s activities…
[Erekat] said: ‘Any self-respecting nation wages battles for its prisoner sons,’ and added: ‘Wait, Marwan Barghouti, Ahmad Sa’adat and the [rest of the] prisoners; the release is near. We will not rest until we see you free among your people, so that you will take up your roles in building the independent State of Palestine on all of the homeland’s territory.’”

Notes: Intilaqa - "the Launch" of Fatah. Refers to the day of Fatah's first terror attack against Israel in 1965 when it tried to blow up Israel's National Water Carrier.
Marwan Barghouti - serving five life sentences for orchestrating terror attacks against Israeli civilians. When arrested in 2002, he headed the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). After he was convicted and imprisoned, he was re-elected member of the Palestinian Authority parliament.
Ahmad Sa’adat - serving a 30-year sentence for heading the PFLP terror organization. A song at a PFLP event also praised him for planning the assassination of Israeli Minister of Tourism Rehavam Ze'evi in 2001, but he has not been tried for this crime.
Fatah official Saeb Erekat refers to Israel as “the 1948 [territories]”

“[Saeb] Erekat, Fatah Central Committee member and one of the prominent leaders in the [West] Bank, said in a special interview with the Saudi Arabian Al-Yaum newspaper… in response to a question about the alternatives the President [Abbas] spoke about should negotiations fail: ‘We made a commitment for now, and paid a very heavy price by [promising] not to turn to international institutions for nine months, in return for [the release of] 104 prisoners. This is a very heavy price, but it is an appropriate price, because countries that respect themselves go to war for their sons’ freedom. These are Palestine’s heroes, who spent more than 20 years in Israeli prisons, and the time has come to release them, regardless of their geographic or political affiliation. There are 14 brothers from the 1948 [territories] (i.e., Israel), 10 from Jerusalem, 11 from the Islamic Jihad, 13 from Hamas, 7 from the Popular Front [for the Liberation of Palestine, PFLP], 21 from [various] organizations and 54 from the Fatah Movement. We agreed that they will be released without deportation, banishment or changing of their location, and if Israel denies these agreements, our alternative will be to turn to international institutions.’”

Note: In August 2013, Israel agreed to release 104 Palestinian terrorists from prison, which was the PA's precondition for renewing peace talks. The terrorists were released in stages. The first group of 26 was released on Aug. 13, 2013. The second group of 26 was released on Oct. 30, 2013.

Regarding the negotiation process, Erekat said: ‘There have been no direct negotiations with the Israeli side since the fifth of last month [November 2013]; rather there are American-Palestinian and American-Israeli talks.’
Erekat added: ‘In order to narrow the gaps, President Mahmoud Abbas sent a letter to American President Barack Obama, which contained all that is in our power and not in our power. We will not accept the Jewishness of Israel, which will harm the refugee cause and harm the Palestinians of the Interior (i.e., Israel), and most dangerously – will alter history and religion as though we were never on this land.’ […]

“Now, let us first begin by recalling those whom we planted as seeds to grow and provide shade for us in all seasons, the brave-hearted Martyrs (Shahids). Colleagues: Commander Marwan Al-Barghouti, Commander Ahmad Sa’adat, Commander Mahmoud Al-Ramahi, elder prisoner Karim Younes, and the thousands of our sons and daughters in prison and our brave wounded.
It does not make sense that at the end of the year 2012 we should be celebrating [Fatah’s 48th anniversary] here, near the birthplace and site of the suffering of Jesus, Palestine’s first Martyr (Shahid), and say to him that the children of Palestine are still being murdered by the occupation (i.e., Israel) in the Gaza Strip, and murdered in the Al-Yarmouk refugee camp (Many people , including Palestinians, were killed in Al-Yarmouk during the Syrian civil war, 2012/2013 – Ed.), and murdered in Iraq.”

Israel is the real threat to Middle East stability, not Iran or the lack of democracy

Headline: “Erekat: The actions of the Israeli government are the true danger threatening the security and stability of the region”
“Saeb Erekat, member of the Fatah Central Committee and head of the Palestinian negotiating team, condemned the Israeli government’s construction of 24 settlement [housing] units on the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem…
This was during meetings which Erekat held separately with the representative of the European Union in Palestine, Christian Berger; with a parliamentary delegation from Chile; with the deputy to the American Consul General; and with the Japanese ambassador, Takeuchi.
Erekat emphasized that the response to the Israeli government must come from the meeting of the Quartet which is scheduled for the 5th of the month in Munich, through recognition of the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the borders of June 4, 1967…
Erekat emphasized that the actions of the Israeli government… have led to the ruin of the peace process, and are now pushing the region into the furnace of violence, anarchy, extremism and bloodshed. He noted that the true danger to the region, to its security and stability, is the continuation of the Israeli occupation and continued Israeli activity, not the absence of democracy or Iran. Therefore, anyone seeking security and stability in the region must first of all dry up the swamp of Israeli occupation.”
PA chief negotiator calls for US and other countries to recognize Palestinian state

We had hoped that Washington would hold Israel responsible for what is happening…
We hope that the American administration will recognize the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, as a response to the Israeli dictates in everything concerning the settlements and the other unilateral steps…
Right now is not the time for [a peace] process or for talk about proximity talks. What is required right now is decisions, and if the US wishes to maintain the two-state option, it must recognize the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders…
